GG Esports Academy (GGEA) has signed one of the top teams in Europe that didn’t qualify for the Call of Duty World League Pro League.
Alex “Alexx” Carpenter, Adam “Defrag” Mathews, and former Millenium players Mark “MarkyB” Bryceland and David “Urban” Marsh have signed with the organization to form GGEA Purple. This is GGEA’s third Call of Duty team, alongside the GGEA Blue and GGEA Orange rosters that were introduced in January.
MarkyB joined Millenium in March 2017 when his Team Infused roster was acquired by the French organization. Urban joined the veteran on Millenium at the beginning of WWII, but the team was released last week after a poor start to the season. Alexx most recently played for exceL, while Defrag was a part of Infused, but they were released following the CWL New Orleans Open.
GGEA’s objective is to develop amateur talent and help their teams progress through the ranks, according to GGEA founder Bryan Yale in an interview with Dexerto. Yale said that the “goal [of GGEA] is to have six salaried Call of Duty teams at any one time, all from outside of the ‘pro level’ – the CWL Pro League.”

With GGEA Purple, half of the organization’s goal has been accomplished. Each of the three GGEA teams are outside of the CWL Pro League as well, with Orange and Blue competing in Stage One of the United States CWL National Circuit, while Purple is in the United Kingdom/Ireland circuit. Heading into the final week of the regular season, Orange and Purple are in playoff positions, but both could fall out with poor results.
The three GGEA teams will complete the Stage One CWL National Circuit regular season on Friday, Feb. 9 when they play their final two matches.
