DMZ has received a slew of new content since the launch of season five, including a reprisal of the mission Reconnaissance by Fire. This mission, first seen in season three, makes its return with the Shadow Company faction and requires you to level up a new weapon and land nearly two dozen kills, all while switching out attachments, in a single DMZ run.
Sound difficult? It really isn’t, but if you don’t have the weapon leveled up first, this mission might take some time.
How to complete Reconnaissance by Fire in DMZ
Reconnaissance by Fire is a tier two Shadow Company mission and has three steps to complete, meaning you’ll need to finish the tier one story mission Unregistered Cargo before you can attempt this mission.
You’ll have three requirements to fulfil, and all must be done in the same DMZ run:
- Kill seven enemies with the MCPR-300 with iron sights.
- Kill seven enemies with the MCPR-300 with a hybrid sight.
- Kill seven enemies with the MCPR-300 with a thermal sight.
If you’ve leveled up the MCPR-300 sniper rifle already, chances are you’ll have unlocked enough attachments to fulfill this quest already. If not, and you’re running solo, you’ll have to level this bad boy up a bit.
Earning Weapon XP in DMZ is very easy. Just about anything you do gets you XP: looting, killing, traveling around the map, etc. The fastest way I level weapons is by completing HVT contracts, which are often quick and easy and net you a chunk of XP.
It may be possible that you’ve unlocked the three different gun sights already by leveling up other similar weapons. To check, go to the DMZ main menu, then Active Duty, then your Loadout, and throw on an MCPR-300. Check your scope options in the Gunsmith for a hybrid, thermal, and iron sight option. If you have all three, happy days.
If doing this solo, simply create a loadout with one of the sights, load up $6,000 from your Wallet, then drop into DMZ. Find seven bots and kill them, then go straight to a workshop—most buy stations will have a workshop nearby. Remove the scope, then spend the $3,000 to upgrade to the next scope.
Now, rinse and repeat: Kill seven bots, then head to the workshop and spend the last $3,000 on the final scope. Net seven kills, and you’re done.
This mission gets even easier with two friends. If each of you picks a different scope for the MCPR-300, then drop in and get seven kills each, you’ll also complete the mission. Easy, right? Your rewards include a Contraband STB LMG and another 7,500 XP.
