Legacy Fortress is one of Operation Deadbolt’s toughest tests in MW3 Zombies. A massive walled facility packed with enemy mercenaries and its own attack helicopter, hitting this point-of-interest in Urzikstan isn’t going to be easy.
In MW3 Zombies, one of the ultimate tests is the Legacy Fortress Stronghold, and you can’t just knock on the front door. Here’s how to best take on Legacy Fortress in MW3 Zombies.
Where to find the Legacy Fortress in MW3 Zombies
Legacy Fortress is a Mercenary Stronghold in MW3 Zombies and can be found at D2 on your Urzikstan map when you first drop in.
It’s hard to miss it: A giant stone-walled castle-like fortress sits at the top of a hill overlooking a number of spawn points in Urzikstan. You’ll know you’re close when you start taking pot shots from snipers on the fortress walls and the mercs call in an attack helicopter—they don’t want you messing around with this place.
You also can’t just walk into the fortress either. You’ll need a special pass to access Legacy Fortress: the Fortress Keycard – Legacy.
How to get a Legacy Fortress Keycard in MW3 Zombies
Above all else, you will need to obtain a special Fortress Keycard – Legacy to even set foot in MW3‘s Legacy Fortress Stronghold. These don’t just drop from downed enemies—you’ll need to do a bit of hunting and killing to find them.
There are a few steps involved in obtaining a Fortress Keycard – Legacy:
- Load into a game of MW3 Zombies.
- Collect 5,000 Essence and Pack-A-Punch the main weapon you want to run—I ran with an MX Guardian and PDSW 528.
- Now, acquire a “Stronghold Keycard.”
- Once you’ve done that, head to your nearest Mercenary Stronghold and open it using the Mercenary Keycard.
- Clear out the building and any additional reinforcements and crack open the safe hidden within.
- Inside, you should find the “Fortress Keycard – Legacy.”
- Before the final step, I would strongly recommend you now accumulate any remaining points required to Pack-A-Punch your gun to Level Two, and also have at least a Two-Plate Armor Vest.
- With the keycard in hand, head to Legacy Fortress found in the D2 section of Urzikstan’s map grid.
How to beat Legacy Fortress in MW3 Zombies
To beat the Legacy Fortress in MW3 Zombies, you need to access the main building, fight your way through, and kill the main boss, Legacy.
Make absolutely no mistake here, even with a Level Two or Three Pack-A-Punch weapon and a high-level Armor vest, Legacy Fortress is no cakewalk. Once you set foot in the compound, you can expect a ton of enemies—many heavily armored troops, Sentry Turrets, mines, reinforcements, and much more.
Take your time making your way through the buildings as there are plenty of booby traps awaiting you! From trip mines to Guardian stun devices and riot-shield troops, you won’t want to speed through this section.
At the top of the facility is the Legacy boss, a warlord trooper with moderate armor and a veritable truckload of Molotovs. Seriously, this guy might as well spit fire at you as between his shotgun and his Molotovs, he’ll coat you and his office in flame.
He spends most of the time hiding behind a small stand at the back of the office, so I found it easy to sit at his doorway and fire at him as he peeked. If you’ve got a teammate with you, take up a position on each side of the entrance and take turns shooting at him from the left and the right. Also, aim for his head which is unarmored to deal critical damage.
Eventually, you’ll whittle him down and finish him off after which you can proceed to an adjoining room full of Inflatable Decoys and a Reward Rift.
Legacy Fortress Rewards in MW3 Zombies
For beating and overcoming the Legacy Fortress in MW3, you will get a random selection of goodies ranging from Perks to Schematics to even Wonder Weapons, but more importantly, the Tactical Negotiator Blueprint.
The Tactical Negotiator is a Blueprint for the Haymaker automatic shotgun players can only acquire by defeating Legacy. The additional attachments improve the Haymaker’s range and magazine capacity and, of course, gives the weapon incendiary rounds. Fitting, given how much Legacy likes his fire.
Unlike other Blueprints from MW2’s DMZ, you can’t take Tactical Negotiator into multiplayer. It also enters your inventory as a Contraband weapon and not as an accessible blueprint to add to your Insured weapons, which means you’ll need to drop into Urzikstan with it next time and exfil with it to keep it.
It’s well worth doing at least once, especially as there’s a Modern Warfare 3 Trophy and Achievement attached to completing Legacy Fortress too.
