The grand finals of the fourth North American Call of Duty World League 2,000 series online tournament featured two surprising teams—and Tanner “Mosh” Clark’s squad came out on top.
Most of the notable professional teams chose to play in the $2,500 CMG ProDown tournament this weekend instead of the NA CWL 2K, which paved the way for Mosh, Timothy “Phantomz” Landis, Paul “Tisch” Tischler, Thomas “GRVTY” Malin, and “Asim” to win the latest Black Ops 4 online event.
Tisch and crew beat Excelerate Gaming—Christopher “ProFeeZy” Astudillo, Ethan “FA5TBALLA” Wedgeworth, Michael “Beehzy” Said, Austin “Believe” Smith, and Mike “MRuiz” Ruiz—in a lengthy best-of-five showdown. Mosh’s team took down UYU and Str8 Rippin to reach the grand finals, while Excelerate beat Marcus “MiRx” Carter’s team and Dylan “Envoy” Hannon’s squad.
Despite a late comeback effort by Excelerate, Mosh’s team kicked off the grand finals with a 250-210 victory on Frequency Hardpoint. In map two, GRVTY helped his team jump out to a 4-0 lead. But Excelerate bounced back to win Hacienda Search and Destroy 6-5 and tie the series at one map apiece.
Gridlock Control went down to the wire, but Mosh’s team took the 3-2 map win thanks to a monster performance by Phantomz, who dealt 7,271 damage. Excelerate responded once again, however, taking Arsenal Hardpoint 250-205 to force a decisive game five.
And in the final map, GRVTY and Phantomz led their team to a 6-2 win on Payload Search and Destroy, securing the 3-2 series victory. Mosh’s team earned 2,000 pro points each and $2,000 as a team for their first-place finish. They’re the third different team to win an NA CWL 2K in Black Ops 4, too—OpTic Gaming won the first two, and Str8 Rippin took the third on Nov. 19.
Even though there weren’t a lot of top professional teams in this 2K, this victory still shows that Phantomz and crew could do some damage in the open bracket at CWL Las Vegas, which starts on Friday, Dec. 7.
