Ah, the light machine gun. Back in the Call of Duty days of old, there were some truly terrifying LMGs going around, but for many years now they’ve filled a niche and aren’t all that great in the modern day of fast-moving and close-quarter battling.

Black Ops 6‘s XMG feels incredibly slow compared to its assault rifle or SMG counterparts, but it packs a big punch and, with a focus more on objective play than eliminating opponents, you’ll find that niche in this version of CoD very quickly.

Here’s our ideal loadout and class setup for the XMG LMG in Black Ops 6.

Best XMG build in Black Ops 6

  • Optic: 0M3 ’92 Holo
  • Muzzle: Compensator
  • Underbarrel: Precision Foregrip
  • Rear Grip: CQB Grip
  • Magazine: Extended Mag I

It’s all about suppressing fire with the XMG in this Black Ops 6 build. The goal is to get onto an objective and hold it down—don’t expect much in the way of combat diving and huge omnidirectional movement plays.

We’re helping out its recoil by throwing on a Compensator and Precision Foregrip, while the CQB Grip helps us out with aiming down sights and at close range when the fight inevitably comes to us. The first Extended Mag option has limited downside, so you will need to manage your ammo a little as you don’t want to be caught reloading.

Close out with a scope of your choice. I found the XMG was decently effective at mid to long-range with the 0M3 ’92 Holo, but if you’d prefer a shorter-range reflex sight, go for it—I just wouldn’t recommend the big 14x sniper scope. For a secondary, grab a rocket launcher of choice as you’ll be using it to bring down the enemy’s scorestreaks.

Equipment

  • Secondary: Cigma 2B
  • Melee: Knife
  • Tactical: Stim Shot
  • Lethal: Semtex
  • Field Upgrade: Trophy System

Perks and class setup

  • Perk One: Flak Jacket
  • Perk Two: Dispatcher
  • Perk Three: Guardian
  • Perk Four: Bankroll
  • Wildcard: Perk Greed
  • Specialty: Strategist

Your team will be brimming at the speed at which you spawn UAVs and Scout Pulses. With the Strategist Specialty unlocked by picking three green perks (Flak Jacket, Dispatcher, and Guardian), taking objectives or shooting enemy equipment grants a huge score boost, allowing you to very quickly unlock your non-lethal scorestreaks.

An example: In Domination, with this build I can spawn, capture the first point, and land one kill and I’ll have both a Scout Pulse and a UAV immediately; a huge benefit to your team as you hunt the enemy. If you want to discount scorestreaks more, pick up Bankroll as your fourth perk via Perk Greed. Or, Ghost is another alternative.
