One of Counter-Strike’s most historic teams, Ninjas in Pyjamas, is making a major change to its core roster, and it involves the loss of Adam Friberg.
The organization announced friberg’s departure earlier today in light of the Swedish team’s poor performances and event absences. Friberg will be replaced on NiP’s active roster by Fredrik ”REZ” Sterner, who was on Epsilon Esports. With this change, REZ will be reunited with his old teammate, William “draken” Sundin.
NiP’s roster now includes REZ, draken, Patrik “f0rest” Lindberg, Christopher “GeT_RiGhT” Alesund, and Richard “Xizt” Landström. The “core” has now shrunk from four to three: f0rest, GeT_RiGhT, and Xizt. This core had notoriety for replacing only the fifth player of the roster, which occurred to Mikail “Mailelele” Bill, Aleksi “allu” Jalli, and Jacob “pyth” Mourujärvi.
As one-fourth of NiP’s core quartet, friberg established himself as a Counter-Strike legend, winning over 30 championships in Counter-Strike: Source and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Friberg won a major title at ESL Cologne 2014 with NiP and had four second-place finishes at DreamHack Winter 2013, ESL Katowice 2014, DreamHack Winter 2014, and ESL Katowice 2015.
NiP’s recent form has spawned memes and videos that the organization will never change–especially in NiP’s failure to qualify for the ELEAGUE Major in January and the PGL Krakow European Minor in May.
Friberg’s departure has saved the team from such scrutiny for now, but the community will continue to push for a Swedish roster shuffle involving GODSENT and NiP.
