Counter Logic Gaming Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team captain and AWPer Peter “ptr” Gurney has been benched from the squad by the organization, sources tell the Daily Dot. This benching comes after a disappointing finish at the most recent ESEA Season 18 Invitational in Dallas last weekend, where the squad finished fifth/sixth in a defeat versus German squad, mousesports.
The player tweeted Wednesday, shortly after Daily Dot received word of the move:
Won’t be streaming tonight something has come up.

Gurney first joined the Counter Logic outfit, an organization best known for its time in League of Legends, on Jan. 16, when the brand acquired the former mouseSpaz squad on which he played. The team announced its new addition via team website, with high intentions of success ahead.
Unfortunately, the tree has yet to bear fruit in achievements for major tournaments outside of the North American region. The team qualified for the ESL One: Katowice 2015 tournament by taking down Titan, a team best known for its Terrorist side dominance and AWPer Kenny “kennyS” Schrub, in a 16-14 result; however, in the main event tournament, Brazilian team Keyd Stars dispensed an 8-16 defeat—it took home a disappointing bottom place. Individually, Gurney is hailed as one of the better AWPers in his home region, but he has struggled with international competition.
The team returned stateside with eyes set on winning. The journey began smoothly as Gurney’s side qualified for the ESEA Season 18 Invitational and also took down fellow NA squad Elevate in the CEVO Season 6: Professional Division tournament.
As for the future of Gurney, his path is uncertain; however, it’s likely he will receive offers from other North American teams due to his high level performance and consistency within domestic tournaments. One opening could be Cloud9, as current contracts over there expire May 1.
When reached, Counter Logic Gaming declined to comment.
