One of Counter-Strike‘s legendary teams revealed a new addition to the squad today. Jacob “pyth” Mourujärvi will play for Ninjas in Pyjamas in 2016.
The premiere Counter-Strike organization struggled to match their historic prowess in 2015, and were forced into a roster change after the departure of Aleksi “Allu” Jalli. They found a replacement in Mourujärvi.
The Swedish player spent the majority of the year in North America, competing for the likes of Luminosity, Winterfox, and Mythic. Despite being considered one of the better players in the region, he was unable to find success, and returned to Europe late on in the year.
Mourujärvi was revealed today, following the announcements that Ninjas in Pyjamas veterans Richard “Xizt” Landstrom and Adam “Friberg” Friberg will continue playing on the team as they have since the squad switched to Global Offensive in 2012.
That leaves two slots to be announced over the next two days, and two Counter-Strike legends still waiting.
Fans will be expecting and hoping that star players Patrick “f0rest” Lindberg and Christopher “GeT_RiGhT” Alesund return for next year. Both are all-time greats, with Alesund a superstar in Global Offensive and Lindberg recently showing invigorated play as the year drew to a close.
It seems likely the two will remain with the team, but it’s not a foregone conclusion. Revealing Mourujärvi third, rather than last, could be cause for worry for the Ninjas in Pyjamas fanbase, who had perhaps been expecting the original four players and then a newcomer. Of course, Ninjas in Pyjamas is likely just saving the best for last, and will announce the return of their key members in the coming days.
The calender is currently clear for Ninjas in Pyjamas. The team will not be attending Dreamhack Leipzig in early January. It’s not yet clear when we will first see the new lineup in action, but the team will definitely be looking to improve on their 2015 results, and hopes pyth can help get them there.
