NRG and Renegades advance to the New Legends stage at IEM Katowice

The 3-0 teams in this New Challenger stage surprisingly aren't from Europe.

The second day of competition at the IEM Katowice Major began this morning, and it ended with two teams moving on to the next stage and two teams packing their bags.

NRG Esports and Renegades are the first two teams to secure their spots in the New Legends stage next week at the 14th Valve Major in Counter-Strike history. Both sides finished their time in the New Challenger stage with 3-0 win-loss records, while also not losing a single map over the past two days.

Vincent “Brehze” Cayonte absolutely carried NRG to two tight finishes over Chinese powerhouse TyLoo, dropping 38 kills on Inferno and 34 on Mirage. Renegades, on the other hand, stunned Finnish heavyweight ENCE Esports in a matchup that they weren’t favored to win.

Day three of the IEM Katowice Major begins tomorrow at 6am CT, featuring three 2-1 advancement matches: Vitality vs. ViCi, TyLoo vs. AVANGAR, and ENCE vs. Winstrike. The 1-2 elimination games will then take place later on Sat, Feb. 16.
