Following an inconsistent run of form in 2016, Virtus Pro looks to ensure its future in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive by re-signing its legendary Polish roster.
The organization revealed that the five players, who have competed with the team since January 2014, have extended their contracts and are set to compete together until 2020. Aside from committing to Virtus Pro for an additional four years, the agreement has also been described as the most valuable contract agreement in all of esports in terms of compensation.
“I admit they [the players] were quite difficult, but in the end we managed to reach a win-win solution,” Virtus Pro’s General Manager Roman Dvoryankin said in the press release. He also sees the deal as “yet another step towards implementing more understandable, I would even say civilized, eSports rules.”
For any team other than Virtus Pro such a long-lasting contract would be hard to imagine, as the majority of teams change players frequently depending on results. Virtus Pro are, however, the longest-lasting roster in CS:GO history, making the team’s decision to re-sign for an additional three years more understandable.
The squad, which consists of CS 1.6 veterans Wiktor “TaZ” Wojtas, Filip “NEO” Kubski, and Jaroslaw “pasha” Jarzabkowski, as well as Janusz “snax” Pogorzelski and Pawel “byali” Bielinski, struggled for the majority of 2016 in terms of results. It wasn’t until the team had a resurgent comeback in ELEAGUE Season 1 that the Polish team’s fortunes truly changed, as the roster went on to win the event and a total of $400,000.
Whether or not this new arrangement will have any kind of impact on the average length of a contract in CS:GO remains to be seen. For fans, however, the potential of three more years of this Virtus Pro roster ought to come as incredible news.
