Many fans have wondered how much money their favorite streamers and content creators make—and now Jeremy “Disguised Toast” Wang has given some in-depth information on the topic.
The popular Hearthstone player and Twitch streamer released a YouTube video earlier this week on the subject, breaking down exactly how streamers can make money on Twitch.
He separated a streamer’s income into four categories: Donations, advertisements, subscriptions, and sponsorships. Donations and ads aren’t too complicated—Disguised Toast said he makes roughly $2,500 per month through donations and about $4,000 a month via ads (without hardly ever “pressing the ad button”).
Income via subscriptions, though, varies depending on the streamer. Some receive 50 percent of each subscription, while the other 50 percent goes to Twitch. Other streamers get a more lucrative 70 percent of each subscription, with Twitch pocketing 30 percent.
Disguised Toast said that he earns around $14,000 per month thanks to his 4,000 subscribers. But, obviously, the more subscribers you have, the more money you’ll make. Popular Fortnite streamer Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, for example, makes about $423,500 from his 121,000 subscribers, according to Disguised Toast. And this doesn’t even account for higher-tier subscriptions, which can cost anywhere from $9.99 to $24.99.
Finally, sponsorships can come in the form of sponsored tweets, Instagram posts, streams, and more. Disguised Toast said that streamers can earn an hourly rate anywhere between $0.01 to $1 per viewer for sponsored streams. So someone like Disguised Toast, who averages 10,000 viewers, can make $1,000 to $10,000 per hour during a sponsored stream.
Obviously these aren’t concrete numbers—some months, Disguised Toast will make more or less money depending on his viewer count, donations, subscriptions, and how many ads he runs. But in general, Disguised Toast said that he makes around $20,000 per month just from donations, ads, and subs—and any sponsored content would add on to that.
This means that he makes roughly $240,000 (before taxes) a year, without including any sponsored streams or posts. That’s definitely not a bad income for someone who gets to do what they love and stream themself playing video games.
