Grand Theft Auto V roleplay servers have officially taken over Twitch.
Twitch statistics website SullyGnome shows that GTA was the third most-watched game on the livestreaming platform in the past seven days with 17.7 million hours total. It was behind only League of Legends and Fortnite: Battle Royale, which had 25.3 and 22.8 million respectively.
When filtering the results for channels in English, GTA V jumps to second place with 14.3 million hours watched, ahead of League by 3.5 million and behind Fortnite by 900,000.

This sudden rise of GTA V in Twitch rankings is most likely due to the new roleplaying mod that several streamers have started playing together. Twitch adds roleplay and standard game channels into the same category, which makes it hard to confirm how much influence GTA RP had on this rise, but looking at the top 10 most watched channels in the past seven days confirms this guess. Summit1g, LIRIK, sodapoppin, and forsen lead the pack followed by Greek, MOONMOON, and xQc.
That means GTA RP nearly equaled or surpassed games with big esports events during the past week, overcoming all League English-language esports broadcasts of LCS, LEC, and LCK, even when their numbers are added to the audience of other English-language League streamers.
The next step step for GTA RP would be to overtake the Twitch colossus that is Fortnite. It might be a close fight for the top, but if GTA RP continues to grow like it did in the past few weeks, it’s possible that this new roleplay mod will turn a five-year-old game into the biggest game on Twitch.
