The longest-running scripted show in American television history, The Simpsons, will air an episode all about esports on Sunday.
The episode, titled “E My Sports,” follows character Bart Simpson’s attempt to win esports competitions after he begins excelling in online gaming. His father, Homer, begins coaching him after he discovers a similar passion for the sport.
The episode will be the 17th of the 30th season of the show and is scheduled to air on March 17, 2019. Ken Jeong, of The Hangover and Community fame, and Natasha Lyonne, from Netflix’s Orange is the New Black and Russian Doll, are also set to be special guest actors in the episode.
The game that Bart is seen competing in appears to be a Simpsons-style version of League of Legends. The creators of the show have regularly included popular games in the show, but under a different name and art style. For example, there’s already been an episode of The Simpsons based on Pokémon Go.
Not much else is known about the episode, however, other than the fact that Lisa will play an important part in trying to get Homer “back to reality.” Regardless, the episode will represent one of the first times that esports has been showcased on a major American animated show.
