Eric “BobaPapa” Gan, a Malaysian streamer studying in Fresno, California, was nearly shot earlier this week, but thankfully his monitor actually took the bullet.

As described by Gan in a series of tweets, he said five gunshots went through his and his friend’s bedroom. Although neither he nor his friend were injured, his MSI monitor was not so lucky. The monitor took some damage in the back due to a bullet hitting the wall it was closest to and presumably bouncing back, but Gan says it still works despite the hole.

Gan said that the police officers that responded to the shots assured him and his friend that they were not being targeted, but that it was a result of a party that was taking place across the street.

Gan, who is majoring in agriculture business, streams to a small number of viewers on his channel, BopaPapa. After the shooting incident, his channel gained more than 100 followers, and he said he would stream even more often with his “bulletproof” monitor.

MSI got involved with the college student, however, despite the monitor still working. In a separate tweet by Gan, he revealed MSI reached out to him via Reddit and offered to send him a new monitor and some other gear for his troubles.

Thankfully Gan and his roommate are okay, and especially after the scary night he had, he can enjoy some new gear and possibly even some more viewers on his stream.
