Like every other Survivor in DBD, Sable will only have access to a small pool of perks before eventually leveling her up through the Bloodweb. Thankfully, some great default Perks come with the game’s free Survivors.

PerkDescription
Strength In ShadowsFrom Sable Ward. Allows you to heal yourself in the basement without a medkit at 70 percent of the normal healing speed. Whenever you finish a heal in the basement, see the Killer’s aura for 10 seconds.
Botany KnowledgeFrom Claudette Morel. Increases your healing speed by 50 percent, but decreases your med-kit efficiency by 20 percent.
Dark SenseEach time a generator is completed, you see the aura of the Killer for 10 seconds if they are within 24 meters of you.
Balanced LandingFrom Nea Karlsson. Grants a 50 percent haste speed boost after falling from a great height and reduces the stagger time from falling by 75 percent.

Sable is no stranger to dangerous situations and uses unsafe environments to her advantage. Her signature perk, Strength in Shadows, allows you to heal in the basement without needing a medkit, and Claudette’s Botany Knowledge Perk will make you heal even faster.

Strength in Shadows reveals the Killer’s aura after finishing a heal, which can be combined with another aura-reading Perk like Dark Sense to constantly reveal the Killer’s location. Finally, an exhaustion perk like Balanced Landing can help you reach the basement quickly.

As you continue to level up this daring witch, you’ll gain access to more characters and Perks. These newfound abilities can combine with Sable’s strengths.

PerkDescription
WickedFrom Sable Ward. Allows you to unhook if you’re hooked in the basement and shows the Killer’s aura for 20 seconds after unhooking yourself or being unhooked.
Desperate MeasuresFrom Felix Richter. Gives you a stackable 14 percent healing and unhooking speed for each injured survivor.
KindredWhenever you or another Survivor is hooked, the auras of all Survivors are revealed to you. If the Killer is within 16 meters of the hook, you also see the Killer’s aura.
Sprint BurstFrom Meg Thomas. Run 50 percent faster for three seconds, but become Exhausted for 40 seconds.

This build revolves around Sable’s perk Wicked, which allows a Survivor to unhook themselves from any basement hook. This Perk synergizes well with other hook-related abilities, such as Desperate Measures, which boosts your unhooking and healing speed for each injured or hooked survivor.

Kindred is a fantastic aura-reading Perk that activates whenever you’re hooked, showing the locations of your teammates and the Killer simultaneously. If you need to make a quick exit, Sprint Burst lets you run away from danger quickly.

Now that your Sable is fully leveled, you can utilize her most dangerous Perk to boost the efficiency of your team.

PerkDescription
Invocation: Weaving SpidersFrom Sable Ward. Enter the basement and press the ability button to begin a spell that takes 60 seconds. During this time, survivors can join to increase casting speed. When the spell is completed, all generators on the map have their repair charges permanently decreased by 10. You become injured for the remainder of the Trial, and cannot be healed.
Déjà VuShows you the auras of the three generators closest together on the map. Your repair speed is six percent faster on these generators.
Resilience Whenever you’re injured, gain a nine percent increase to healing, unhooking, repairing, sabotaging, vaulting, cleansing, blessing, opening, and unlocking.
Dead HardFrom David King. Press the active ability button while running to become immune to damage for half a second. This perk can only be used after you’re unhooked.

Sable’s most advantageous Perk, but also the riskiest, is Invocation: Weaving Spiders, which turns any character into a full-on spellcaster. To use this perk head into the basement and channel your magic into a spell-circle, making all generators require 10 percent less repair progress upon completion.

After you complete the invocation your character will become permanently injured for the remainder of the Trial, so use Perks like Resilence and Dead Hard that help you stay alive while hurt. Finally, Déjà Vu can help you find and repair generators even faster, so you can escape with your life intact.

How to play as Sable Ward effectively in DBD

Playing as Sable Ward is not for the faint of heart, as she favors a high-risk and high-reward playstyle. If you equip any of her unique Perks, you’ll find yourself venturing into the Killer’s basement to heal or unhook yourself, or using your magic to make objectives easier to complete.

While the basement is typically safer than it seems, the Killer can trap you downstairs and ensure your death. Luckily, many Perks synergize with Sable’s playstyle, allowing you to save and heal yourself in the clutches of danger.

Finally, Sable’s magical invocation is a powerful tool that completes generators faster while seriously crippling her for the remainder of the Trial. Only the most experienced of Survivors should risk running this magical spell, as a Killer may try to exploit your weakened state by tunneling you out of the game.
