Images of Deadlock, the new six-vs-six hero shooter developed by Valve, surfaced online in May 2024. Ever since, eager players have been hungry to learn more about the characters they’ll control in battle.
Now, interested players are slowly getting access to the not-so-secret playtest (similar to how Dota 2, Artifact, and Counter-Strike 2 worked over the years), and as a result, we’ve gotten a much more in-depth look at Deadlock‘s initial roster—ranging from flying imps and burly blacksmiths to huge battle robots.
Here’s a full list of confirmed and leaked Deadlock heroes.
All playable characters in Deadlock
On May 21, Insider Gaming obtained a list of 19 characters that were to feature in Deadlock’s early build. Some were featured in previous Deadlock leaks, but it wasn’t until a month or so later that we got our hands on the alpha ourselves. Since then, Valve has added two heroes, Viscous and Shiv, so it’s assumed there will be more to come down the track.
As of the Deadlock playtest expansion in mid-2024, 21 heroes are available to play right now:
- Abrams
- A tanky hero who fights at close range, with elements of a gargoyle and demon mixed into their design.
- Bebop
- A red robot that throws out a hook to capture and drag enemies.
- Dynamo
- A robot built around supporting and team-fighting with a very powerful black hole-like ultimate.
- Grey Talon
- A Native American-inspired archer with traps and a powerful bow.
- Haze
- A gunslinging assassin who can turn partially invisible and is very mobile.
- Infernus
- A gangster who fires flame from his fingertips, burning enemies over time.
- Ivy
- An imp-like flying hero that can tether to and heal allies.
- Kelvin
- Wields a frost gun that freezes targets and creates ice paths to run on.
- Lady Geist
- A hero who sacrifices her own health to deal excess damage and use abilities.
- Lash
- A character with warrior-esque design qualities.
- McGinnis
- A blacksmith that summons turrets and walls and fires a barrage of missiles from her backpack.
- Mo & Krill
- A combo character made up of a monkey and a pig.
- Paradox
- A hero that manipulates time by freezing herself or enemies and can instantly swap places with a target.
- Pocket
- Escapes using a briefcase and flies with a magic cloak.
- Seven
- Uses electricity to deal damage and stun enemy targets.
- Shiv
- A “monster hunter” that looks a little like Elvis Presley.
- Vindicta
- A vampire-like character with a sniper rifle.
- Viscous
- A hero that uses a goo-like substance to slow enemy targets, trap them in cubes, and even roll into battle protected.
- Warden
- A police officer with an all-around kit focused on mobility and lockdown.
- Wraith
- A character similar to a bounty hunter who “excels at one-on-one combat.”
- Yamato
- A samurai-like character with a focus on melee combat.
Valve has been quiet about Deadlock’s rollout, keeping information coming via in-game announcements, including constant patches and updates. There’s still plenty to perfect with Deadlock, such as visual textures and buggy gameplay interactions, so it’s unclear whether more characters will be added to the roster.
It’s unlikely we’ll see a MOBA-style roster size in the hundreds for Deadlock, but now that Valve has officially announced and unveiled Deadlock, expect to see constant updates and a few more additions to the team.
