While there are still several months left in Destiny 2’s first episode, Echoes, Bungie has already confirmed a huge detail about what players can expect in the next one.

The second episode of 2024, Revenant, will deal with the remaining Fallen enemies within the solar system, and the Scorn like Fikrul the Fanatic. And today during a developer stream, Bungie announced it’s making a big change to how story content will be delivered.

For several years now, Bungie has been delivering seasonal/episodic content in weekly drops in Destiny 2. As a test trial, Revenant will have all of its story content available at once on day one, a huge departure from the developer’s philosophy.

This will be a controversial change for some players. Weekly content has given players a reason to return to the game each week for new story drops and challenges, and previously, many have complained that there’s not much left to do once story content is finished.

With all story content available on the first day of the Episode, some players will undoubtedly blow through all of it and have not much left to look forward to throughout the rest of the Episode. But Bungie says it wants players to play how they’d like to during this trial and then monitor feedback on how to proceed moving forward.

Personally, I have loved the weekly story drops. Destiny 2 hasn’t been an “everyday” game for me for some time, but I enjoy heading back on weekly resets on Tuesdays to try whatever is new. I do have the option to play the game at my own pace, but that also runs a huge risk of getting the story spoiled by those who blow through it.

But with so many live-service games to play these days, maybe having the ability to play everything at once will be a good thing. We’ll know more when Episode: Revenant drops later this year.
