Destiny 2’s annual Festival Of The Lost celebrations are underway once again for 2023, and while the new grenade launcher Acosmic will undoubtedly turn a few heads, the freshly refurbished perk pool for last year’s Mechabre sniper rifle is just as interesting to take a look at for prospective god rolls.

The perk pool has less of a PvP focus than before, but there’s just as much potential here to make it a weapon well worth chasing. Exclusive to Mechabre is the Festival of the Lost’s Origin Trait called Search Party, which grants both a faster aim down sights speed and movement speed when you scope in with no allies nearby.

Here are the best rolls for both PvP and PvE for the Mechabre sniper rifle in Destiny 2.

  • First perk: Snapshot Sights or Keep Away
  • Second perk: Opening Shot or Discord

One of the most significant changes to Mechabre’s perk pool this year is that a lot of the perks previously great for PvP have been removed in favor of a more PvE-centric focus. This means that options are a lot more limited when building a PvP god roll for the weapon.

No Distractions and Perpetual Motion are no longer here, but fortunately, Snapshot Sights has remained in the third column to give players at least one good utility choice for The Crucible.

Keep Away also has potential, especially in tandem with the effects of the Search Party origin trait, but again requires a very specific playstyle to keep active. If you’re able to keep your distance, especially on Destiny 2’s larger maps, Keep Away can be a fantastic tool to up your accuracy and range with ease.

Choosing between that and Snapshot Sights simply comes down to what kind of range you’re hoping to work with, and how often you believe you’ll get the opportunity to reap the benefits of its effects.

For a pairing perk in the fourth column, a lot has changed on the PvE side, but the PvP recommendation remains the same: Opening Shot. Last year, Moving Target was a decent alternative, but that has been removed in favor of perks like High Ground and Discord. Opening Shot was already the safest choice to go for in a PvP god roll, with the significant bumps to aim assistance, accuracy, and range it provides, but that is even moreso the case in 2023.

That’s not to say Discord is an impossible perk to make work. Open an engagement with a kill from a long-range pulse rifle or hand cannon, and the boost to accuracy and aim-down-sights speed upon switching to Mechabre will be noticeable.

For the especially accurate players, the fact Discord even refunds ammo upon final blows while it is active is even more of a reason to make use of it. However, this perk is ultimately a gamble. If you aren’t comfortable enough to risk its required setup process, Opening Shot is the safer choice.

Mechabre PvE god roll in Destiny 2

  • Barrel: Polygonal Rifling
  • Magazine: Appended Mag or Flared Magwell
  • First perk: Clown Cartridge or Demolitionist
  • Second perk: Vorpal Weapon or Voltshot

Players have a lot of options when it comes to a PvE god roll of Mechabre. Whether it’s investing fully into Arc with Voltshot, or building a boss damage demon through Clown Cartridge and Vorpal Weapon, this sniper rifle is a flexible pick to farm for.

Clown Cartridge and Vorpal Weapon was the roll we recommended last year, and not a lot has changed to dampen how good this roll can be when used in the right circumstances. Sniper rifles still aren’t the kings they used to be in PvE, but holding onto one of these types of rolls will be invaluable if the meta ever returns to Special weapons being used for boss damage.

Equipped alongside Appended Mag, you can fire off a lot of shots in even a short time window, and the benefits that Vorpal Weapon provides as a damage boost will be greater on Mechabre than it would be on a Heavy weapon.

However, if you want a god roll that you can make use of right now in day-to-day PvE activities, you might want to invest in Voltshot. Voltshot is most powerful on Primary weapons but can be just as deadly on Special weapons too. Sniper rifles don’t have a lot of crowd control capabilities to begin with, so the powerful Jolt effect that Voltshot grants is perfect to mitigate that.

Even though it’s not particularly synergistic, Demolitionist in the third column is a great counterpart. It might not assist Voltshot much, but it will greatly improve the gun’s utility in the neutral game. Each kill granting you grenade energy is never a bad thing to have, and if you’re already investing into your Arc subclass with Voltshot, having more uptime on those Arc abilities will be ideal.

If synergy is what you’re looking for though, go for Demolitionist with Adrenaline Junkie. Kills generate grenade energy, and grenade kills grant a 33 percent damage boost to Mechabre. It’s a classic combination, and sometimes the classics remain the most effective playstyles to fall back on if you aren’t sure what to look for in a weapon roll.

Those powerful rolls are viable for both PvP and PvE activities, making the grind for a god roll throughout the duration of the event a worthy endeavor knowing that Mechabre will be unavailable after Festival of the Lost ends on Nov. 7.
