Diablo 4 offers an abundance of dungeons for players to tackle in their hunt for the best gear. The Onyx Hold dungeon is a popular one, and to be honest, I’d even go as far as saying it’s a personal favorite. Beating the Onyx Hold dungeon in Diablo 4 provides a powerful aspect in the form of Storm Well, which allows Sorcerers to deal 11 to 20 percent increased damage to Vulnerable enemies while you have a Barrier.

It might not sound much, but don’t be fooled—this is a huge buff that lets Sorcerers use devastating attacks against vulnerable foes, significantly increasing any build’s strength. But, before you can step foot into the hold, you’ll need to do a few things.

The Onyx Hold dungeon can be found in the Dry Steppes region in Diablo 4, specifically in the Onyx Watchtower sub-region.

The Onyx Watchtower is actually a Stronghold, and it must be completed before you can access the Onyx Hold dungeon. Don’t roll your eyes just yet, though. The Stronghold was pretty easy to do in my experience, and it should be no different for you. All you need to do is obliterate all the enemies within and call it a day.

If you have already beaten the Stronghold, you’ll be able to fast travel to the Waypoint just outside the Onyx Hold dungeon. If you haven’t, the best way to travel there is from either Ken Bardu or Fate’s Retreat.

How to clear the Onyx Hold dungeon in Diablo 4

The journey through the Onyx Hold dungeon begins in the Rotting Penitentiary, where you’ll be tasked with defeating all enemies within the area. In reality, though, you only need to plow through a certain number of them, and when you’re close to hitting that mark, that number will be shown next to the objective.

I recommend sticking to the main path and branching off to the sides when red dots appear on your minimap. Some elites will spawn nearby and some events might also appear inside the dungeon, but you can ignore them.

After slaying all enemies in the Rotting Penitentiary, keep following the main path until it is blocked by mist. You can dispel the mist by destroying the Skeletal Construct. I also recommend using the exploding barrels nearby to turn any nearby enemies into dust.

Once you’ve done all that, your final task takes place in the next area, the Bastille of the Damned. You’ll need to slay the Languishing Corpses, which will appear on the minimap in the form of skull icons.

Be careful, though. These enemies are bloated and explode upon death, leaving behind a pool of poison. I found them to be an absolute pain, even more so in higher World Tiers, so try not to get swarmed.

Killing them all will bring an end to the Diablo 4 dungeon. The first time you complete it, you’ll receive the Storm Well Aspect.
