After two and a half months of anticipation since the Dueling Fates update was initially teased at TI7, the patch will finally arrive in the game Nov. 1.
Since the end of The International 7 in August, the community has become very restless. Reddit and social media have been filled with players crying out for updates and change in the game.
The community won’t have to wait for much longer. Earlier today, the company posted the release date for Patch 7.07 on the official Dota 2 Twitter account, and players everywhere marked their calendars.
Given the amount of content in past major updates the community can expect to see not just the two new heroes, but a whole host of balance changes and perhaps even some new items to play with. Some of the metagame’s strongest heroes, such as Necrophos, Nyx Assassin, Earthshaker, Venomancer, and Night Stalker should also get toned down in the patch.
While there isn’t much else to be gleaned from the tweet—and no patch notes to speak of—there is little doubt that this announcement comes as a huge relief to fans of the classic MOBA all over the world. Unlike in years past when Valve would release major updates to Dota 2 shortly before and after The International, this time the post-TI update has taken five full months.
It is therefore understandable that the community has gotten bored of the current metagame. This translated to a sharp decline in the game’s playerbase last month, causing the active player count to hit its lowest point since 2014.
The next source of excitement for Dota players will come when the patch notes are released—hopefully some time in the next few days.
