One of the many mysteries in Dragon’s Dogma 2 revolves around a grimoire called “On the Transference of Souls,” which is a set of two separate tomes. Your first encounter with either piece of the tome could come in one of two different locations, one of which is related to a side quest.

Below, you can see where to find both volumes of the tome and how to complete the specific side quest in DD2.

On the Transference of Souls is sold by two different vendors in two different cities of Dragon’s Dogma 2. The first is obtained from the Bakbattahl vendor Isaac, of Isaac’s Wares, after you complete the Short-Sighted Ambition quest. The second is sold by Ibrahim, of Ibrahim’s Scrap Store, without really needing to jump through any hoops. Since you need the second half to unlock the first, we’ll talk about them in that order.

On the Transference of Souls Two is on sale for 2,000 gold at Ibrahim’s Scrap Store in the Checkpoint Rest Town in Vermund. You can get it here at any point of DD2 and it’ll be in stock, though he does warn you about its potential power when you pick it up. It’ll go right to your Valuables tab, so be careful about storing it in the wrong place.

While you’re here, we’d recommend forging the tome using Ibrahim’s special service. On the Transit of Souls 2 is required for the good ending of the upcoming questline. While this step isn’t necessary for getting the tome in its entirety, it is a nice thing to do.

You’ll have to do a bit more traveling to get the first tome, but with this in hand, it’ll be easy.

How to get On the Transference of Souls One

An apothecary vendor named Isaac has On the Transference of Souls One in his possession. Isaac is located in the heart of Bakbattahl. He’s looking for the second tome to complete the collection, mainly because he’s interested in harnessing the power of the two.

Isaac is located at the apothecary icon (the potion vial) in the center of the Mercantile Quarter in Bakbattahl. When you speak to him for the first time, you’ll start the side quest called Short-Sighted Ambition. The first part of the side quest only requires you to bring him a Ripened Quince to cure an ailment, which is easily found around Battahl. Bring the Ripened Quince to Isaac and then check up on him after resting at an inn or sitting on a bench for a while.

After you go back to speak to him, he’ll mention he needs the second tome to unlock a secret power. For those of you who bought On the Transference of Souls Two at Ibrahim’s shop, you can give it to Isaac and play out the rest of the side quest.

If you want a good ending, you’ll need the forged version of the tome. Giving On the Transit of Souls Two to Isaac won’t lock you out of purchasing the half-tome, but does mean you’ll need to buy it from him for another 2,000 gold. A bit of a bummer for your wallet, but at least your emotions will be spared the turmoil that is the quest’s bad ending.

Once you have both halves of the tome, you can combine them in your crafting menu to make the grimoire whole again. On the Transference of Souls is a one-time consumable that casts Celestial Paean, a powerful support spell.

That’s all you need to know about the On the Transference of Souls tomes in DD2. The side quest you go on for the tomes ends in quite a dramatic fashion, so I suggest making it a priority once you enter Battahl.
