Fortnite’s 5.0 content update retires the classic tactical SMG while adding a new one

One must say goodbye to make room for a hello.

A new update has gone live in Fortnite: Battle Royale this morning. It’s a small one, but it could have some big implications in the meta.

The star of the update is the new Submachine Gun, which is available in Common, Uncommon, and Rare variants. The base damage for the new SMG varies from 19, 20, and 21. By looking at the gun, it seems it was inspired by the MP5 from real life.

Like the Suppressed SMG, it uses Light ammo, and it has a 30 round capacity. The new gun can be found in floor loot and chests all around the map. Epic says the new SMG has a higher rate of fire and is “ideal for those intense close range battles.”

Sadly, to make room for the new SMG, the classic Tactical SMG has been retired to the vault. Epic Games has said previously that just because a gun is put into the vault doesn’t mean it is gone forever, and they reserve the right to bring a gun back at any time.

In the only other change in the small content update, the Semi-Auto Sniper Rifle has seen a pretty nice buff—its damage has been increased to 75 or 78 from 63 or 66.

The 5.0 content update is live now in Fortnite, so hop on the game and check out the new SMG.
