The Birthday Medallion is a fun, celebratory item and a great tool for increasing your odds of claiming a Victory Royale. If you want to test this item out for yourself, you need to know how to get a Birthday Medallion in Fortnite.

You can obtain a Birthday Medallion by opening a Birthday Present in Fortnite. You can loot Birthday Presents from just about anywhere, including the ground, chests, and supply drops.

I found my first Birthday Present on the ground right by the stairs leading up to the throne room at Mount Olympus, but you can find them anywhere around the island. There is no guaranteed spot where you can always find them, so your best bet for obtaining a Birthday Present is looting as many areas as you can. Make sure you check every chest you come across and always scan the ground around you so you don’t accidentally miss one.

When you find a Birthday Present and add it to your inventory, you can throw it on the ground to make a massive gift spawn. Once the enormous present appears, use your Pickaxe to mine this box and uncover the loot inside. You’ll find a Birthday Medallion once you do.

Birthday Presents also drop other random loot, which usually includes powerful weapons, so be sure to pick up all items before you start floating away with your new Birthday Medallion. This item functions quite differently from the other Medallions you can acquire from Mysterio, Emma Frost, and Doombot, so you may need to learn how to use it now that you have one.

Also unlike the regular Medallions, there isn’t just one exclusive version of the Birthday Medallion. This means you’ll likely see others soaring through the sky with balloons too if they also manage to secure one.

What does the Birthday Medallion do in Fortnite?

The Birthday Medallion grants you balloons over time. These balloons then lift you up into the air and allow you to soar freely through the sky. While all other Medallions mark your location on the map, this one doesn’t so you can float around in peace without worrying about other players trying to hunt you down.

You gain a new balloon each time you jump with this Medallion equipped. You can obtain a maximum of three balloons at once. The more balloons you have, the higher you fly. This makes the Birthday Medallion an excellent item for traversing around the vast map, although it’s not quite as good as the Iron Man Flight Kit and War Machine Hover Jets you can obtain from Stark Mobile Armories.

The Birthday Medallion and all other festive content are only available to complete until Oct. 1. There’s plenty to uncover like the Firework Flare Gun, Birthday Cake, and many exclusive rewards to earn, so be sure to start tackling those birthday quests as soon as possible.
