Here are all animal locations and their favorite foods in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Gotta befriend 'em all.

In Disney Dreamlight Valley, you can interact with animals known as “critters,” which you can find in every biome. Once you “approach” them, you can feed them their favorite foods and eventually befriend them.

To unlock critters as companions, you must feed the wild animal for two days. Remember you can only feed each critter once daily, meaning it will take at least two days to make a critter your companion.

Feeding critters can reward you with Dream Shards, but only if you feed them their favorite food. Other than collecting Dream Shards, feeding animals can also make them your companions, which means they can always stay at your side as you traverse Dreamlight Valley.

How many critters are there in Disney Dreamlight Valley?

There are 56 different critters stemming from the 11 critter types below, all of which can be found in specific biomes and are relatively easy to find once you know where to look. Not every animal is friendly, and many will run away, so you must sneakily approach them if they want to feed them successfully. This means a lot of specific knowledge and effort is involved in feeding the animals in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

Tip:

Capybaras, Monkeys, and Cobras are critters that can only be found on the Eternity Isle, which is available in the A Rift in Time Expansion.

Below is a list of all the animals, their locations, variants, favorite foods, and how to approach them in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

All critter locations, variants, favorite foods, and how to approach them in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Raccoons

  • Raccoon Location: Forest of Valor
  • Raccoon Variants: There are five different raccoon types which are the Classic Raccoon, White Raccoon, Black Raccoon, Red Raccoon, and Blue Raccoon.
  • Raccoon’s Favorite food: Blueberries

Feeding a raccoon is going to take time and effort. You can’t use unsophisticated tactics like charging straight at the timid animal at full speed because raccoons are incredibly skittish.

Instead, players will need to approach them when they are looking down. Occasionally, raccoons will sit on their hind legs with their heads up in the air.

Tip:

If you move when they have their head above and are on alert, they will immediately flee the scene.

Take your time and wait patiently when a raccoon is on alert, and you will eventually be able to approach them to feed them their favorite food. Players may take several tries to interact with this creature, but they shouldn’t be discouraged. This critter has a bit of a learning curve and will become much easier to feed once players have done it a few times.

Rabbits

  • Rabbit Location: Peaceful Meadow
  • Rabbit Variants: There are five different types of this critter, which are the Classic Rabbit, White Rabbit, Black Rabbit, Brown Rabbit, and Calico Rabbit.
  • Rabbit’s Favorite food: Carrots

These bouncy boys can hop through the meadows they’re found in no time, which they usually do when you come across them. Once you approach a rabbit, it will jump in place and run a little distance away, then begin jumping up and down again.

Don’t be fooled by their skittish behavior, however. This is how a rabbit in Disney Dreamlight Valley usually acts when hungry. Keep persevering and follow the rabbit wherever it leads you. It will run away from you three times before it stops and lets you feed them.

As might be expected, rabbits’ favorite food is carrots. This is one of the easiest to attain and quickest crops to grow in Disney Dreamlight Valley, so players should have no problem befriending rabbits when they wish to do so.

Foxes

  • Fox Location: Frosted Heights
  • Fox Variants: Five different types of fox exist in Disney Dreamlight Valley, and these are the Classic Fox, White Fox, Black Fox, Red Fox, and Blue Fox.
  • Fox’s Favorite food: White Sturgeon

Like many of the critters around Dreamlight Valley, foxes will run away from you when you attempt to feed them and must be chased around first. Running after them for a while will finally cause them to accept you feeding them.

Foxes are friendly little canines whose favorite food is the White Sturgeon. This fish can only be caught in the Frosted Heights biome, which is perfect since this is also where players must be to feed foxes.

Squirrels

  • Squirrel Location: Plaza
  • Squirrel Variants: Players can befriend five different types of this critter, which are the Classic Squirrel, White Squirrel, Black Squirrel, Grey Squirrel, and Red Squirrel.
  • Squirrel’s Favorite food: Peanuts

These cheeky animals are probably the first critters you will encounter in Disney Dreamlight Valley. Squirrels are also incredibly easy to feed because they are very friendly. Once befriended, they will happily eat their favorite food.

Unless they have already been fed in the last 24 hours, squirrels will never run away from you. If a squirrel is hungry, it will run up to you and wait to be fed.

Sunbirds

  • Sunbird Location: Sunlit Plateau
  • Sunbird Variants: There are five different sunbird types that players can meet, which are the Orchid Sunbird, Golden Sunbird, Red Sunbird, Emerald Sunbird, and Turquoise Sunbird.
  • Sunbird’s Favorite Food: This unique critter has a different favorite food depending on its color.
Sunbird VariantFavorite Food
Orchid SunbirdOrange Houseleek
Golden SunbirdSunflower
Red SunbirdRed Bromeliad
Emerald SunbirdGreen Passion Lily
Turquoise SunbirdPink Houseleek

These aviary beauties are probably the most beautiful critters in Disney Dreamlight Valley. Sunbirds are incredibly speedy but are deceptively friendly creatures, so you shouldn’t have too much trouble getting to feed them. They are a little hyperactive, though, so you might have to chase after them for a while as they zoom around the area, only to stop eventually.

Sunbirds are also the only animals in the game to have different favorite foods based on the different variants of the sunbird.

Sea Turtles

Turtles are shy, but they love their seaweed. Screenshot via Gameloft
  • Sea Turtle Location: Dazzle Beach
  • Sea Turtle Variants: There are five variants of this critter in total, which are the Classic Sea Turtle, White Sea Turtle, Black Sea Turtle, Brown Sea Turtle, and Purple Sea Turtle.
  • Sea Turtle’s Favorite food: Seaweed

Sea turtles are indeed shy little critters, but that does not mean they are unfriendly. You can find these hard-shelled amphibians swimming along the shores of Dazzle Beach. Approach them cautiously and watch the sea turtles retreat into their shells after spotting you.

Be patient and stay there; the little guy will eventually pop his head out. This means the sea turtle is ready to be fed, so ensure you have the seaweed on hand.

Tip:

If the turtle isn’t reappearing, I like to nudge them near the ocean, throw out my fishing line, and wait for them to pop out of their shells, and then interact with them. It works every time.

Sea turtles can be found anywhere on the land or in the water around Dazzle Beach. This means that they may sometimes be difficult to spot as they have been known to hide in the water fairly well, so any players seeking to befriend the small critters will need to scour the beach carefully.

Crocodiles

  • Crocodile Location: Glade of Trust
  • Crocodile Variants: There are six variants of this critter, which are the Classic Crocodile, White Crocodile, Red Crocodile, Blue Crocodile, Pink Crocodile, and Golden Crocodile.
  • Crocodile’s Favorite food: Lobster

Crocodiles can be pretty active on their feet, as they can be seen running around a lot like raccoons. And just like with raccoons, crocodiles are on alert when they have their heads in the air.

Your time to sneak up on a crocodile is when its head is down. The tactic for feeding this creature is essentially the same as that of the raccoon, as the crocodile will soon look back up, which means players must stop moving in time.

After repeating this process a few times, players eventually get close enough to the crocodile to feed it. Crocodiles’ favorite food is the Lobster, which can be fished from the Glade of Trust biome, also home to this critter.

Ravens

  • Raven Location: Forgotten Lands
  • Raven Variants: There are five different types of ravens which are the Classic Raven, White Raven, Brown Raven, Red Raven, and Blue Raven.
  • Raven’s Favorite food: Any five-star meal

Perhaps the fanciest critter of them all is the Raven, which can be found circling the eerie Forgotten Lands biome and was added in Disney Dreamlight Valley’s first big content update featuring Scar. While most of the other critters’ favorite foods are pretty simple, the Raven asks players for quite a lot, with its favorite food being any five-star meal.

Five-star meals are, as the name implies, the most elevated type of cuisine in Disney Dreamlight Valley, and thus, players are asked to use five ingredients to cook them. This is rather costly, especially compared to the favorite foods of all other critters, which are just straightforward items. But any five-star meal will do, so players have at least a few options.

Players can feed ravens by approaching them, waiting for them to circle, and swooping toward them. Once the Raven has stopped circling, players can interact with them to give them a five-star dish.

Capybaras (A Rift in Time expansion only)

  • Capybaras Location: The Wild Tangle
  • Capybara variants: There are five capybara variants, including Black and White, Blue Striped, Classic, Gray Spotted, and Red and White Striped Capybara.
  • Capybaras Favorite Food: Cabbage

Capybaras are cute and sweet, and you don’t have to play games to feed them. You simply need to find them in the Wild Tangle and feed them their favorite food—Cabbage. You will also need to bring Mirabel along and take a photo of her with the Capybaras during the A Letter for Antonio quest. So, befriending them is time-saving. You can simply summon them one by one, snap a photo, and complete the quest fairly quickly.

Monkeys (A Rift in Time expansion only)

  • Monkey Locations: Ancient’s Landing
  • Monkey Variants: There are five monkey variants, including Beige, Black and Brown, Black and Gray, Classic, and Red and Beige Monkey.
  • Monkeys Favorite Food: Five-star meals.

Unfortunately, Monkeys are tricky little critters, and you must play a game of tag with them for quite some time before you can approach them to feed them. I’ve sometimes spent three minutes trying to approach a monkey. So, be prepared for an epic chase, and make sure you have a five-star meal ready before you start playing tag.

Cobras (A Rift in Time expansion only)

  • Cobra Locations: The Glittering Dunes
  • Cobra Variants: There are five cobra variants, including Blue and Red Striped, Classic, Green and White Striped, Pink Spotted, and Yellow and Purple Striped Cobras.
  • Cobra’s Favorite Foods: Eggs

Like the raccoons, you must play Red Light Green Light to approach the cobras. This means you move towards them when their head is down and stop as soon as they raise their heads. If you move while their head is up and they’re alert, they will immediately flee. Once you get the hang of the game, approaching and feeding them their favorite food, eggs, is quite easy.

The critters in Disney Dremalight Valley are nothing short of adorable, and this is everything you need to know about each critter, their locations, variants, and favorite foods.
