Spirit Ashes are a major part of Elden Ring’s gameplay experience. While using them in boss battles is completely optional, Spirit Ashes can still provide players with a sense of accomplishment when collecting them.

Although there are dozens of Spirit Ashes to collect across the Lands Between, only six are considered to be of legendary status. All six of the Legendary Ashen Remains are spread well throughout the Lands Between, with each of them naturally coming to your character at different points of your progression.

None of the Legendary Ashes will be collected as part of the game’s main progression line, so you’ll have to go slightly out of your way if you want to collect all six legendary spirit summons and earn the Legendary Ashen Remains achievement.

Here are all six of Elden Ring’s Legendary Ashen Remains, as well as their locations.

The six non-DLC Legendary Ashen Remains, in recommended order based on the difficulty of the region they’re in, are as follows:

Legendary Ashen Remains NameLocation Dropped
Lhutel the HeadlessTombsward Catacombs, Limgrave, by defeating the dungeon boss.
Ancient Dragon Knight KristoffSainted Hero’s Grave, Atlus Plateau, by defeating the dungeon boss.
Mimic TearNight’s Sacred Ground, Nokron, Eternal City, behind a Stonesword Key door.
Redmane Knight OghaWar-Dead Catacombs, eastern Caelid, north of Radahn boss fight, by defeating the dungeon boss.
Black Knife TicheRingleader’s Evergaol, southern Liurnia of the Lakes, by defeating the Evergaol boss.
Cleanrot Knight FinlayElphael, Brace of the Haligtree, in a chest found across from an early support beam.

Legendary Ashen Remains follow similar rules to most Spirit Ashes in Elden Ring: You can only summon them in specific areas, but they’re controlled by AI and have a variety of attacks they’ll use. Legendary Ashen Remains are Renowned Spirit Ashes, meaning they’ll require Ghost Gloveworts to upgrade, rather than Grave Gloveworts. Thankfully, you’ll get plenty enough resources to upgrade all of them nine times at a minimum, so don’t worry about picking your favorite.

Lhutel the Headless can be acquired from the Tombsward Catacombs after defeating its boss, the Cemetery Shade. Since the Tombsward Catacombs are found in the Weeping Peninsula, a relatively early region encountered by players, Lhutel is likely the first legendary set of Spirit Ashes you’ll pick up in Elden Ring.

Many players make an effort to level up Lhutel through Spirit Tuning since she’s a strong option throughout the early and mid-game—thanks to her high survivability through teleporting and decent damage with her lance. Even late-game bosses can get distracted by her pokes and prods so you can get your licks in.

Ancient Dragon Knight Kristoff

Ancient Dragon Knight Kristoff is dropped by the Ancient Hero of Zamor boss in the Sainted Hero’s Grave just west of Leyndell, Royal Capital. The Rampartside Path and Windmill Village Sites of Grace provide you with a direct route to the Sainted Hero’s Grave.

These Legendary Ashen Remains work like many other Leyndell Knights, calling down lightning bolts and attacking with lightning-based spear attacks. He’s relatively durable, but by no means overly powerful.

Mimic Tear

Nokron can be accessed and explored quite early. And you should do so, since this summon is amazing. Screenshot by Dot Esports

The Mimic Tear ashes are found in a Stonesword Key-protected chest in the Night’s Sacred Ground subregion of Nokron, the Eternal City. When heading through the city proper from the Ancestral Woods Site of Grace, you’ll reach a building on the eastern side after traversing a crumbling wall. Drop down through the window and run past an altar with a pair of statues. Follow the hallway to a smoke-based door and open it through the Imp Statues on the left—at the cost of a single Stonesword Key. This will unlock the door and grant you the Mimic Tear, alongside a few other goodies.

Even though the Mimic Tear may not be as strong as it was at the launch of Elden Ring, it’s still one of the best summons by a wide margin. That’s because it summons a copy of you, which will use your weapon and spam your spells, though it comes at the cost of a chunk of health.

Redmane Knight Ogha

Redmane Knight Ogha is dropped as a reward for defeating the Putrid Tree Spirit, the boss associated with the War-Dead Catacombs in Caelid. The catacombs can only be accessed after defeating Starscourge Radahn and are in the far eastern corner of his boss arena. The Catacombs are intended for higher-level players since they’re part of the more difficult Dragonbarrow region—we do not recommend getting Ogha immediately after defeating Radahn.

Ogha is an archer who patrols wherever summoned, making him better for boss fights than traversing a region. He also has a unique interaction whenever the player uses the War Cry skill; firing a line of arrows, rather than charged Gravity Shots.

Black Knife Tiche

To get the Black Knife Tiche Ashes, you’ll have to unlock the Moonlight Altar plateau in southwestern Liurnia, meaning you’ll need to complete most of Ranni’s questline and fight in that region’s Evergaol. Once you’ve unlocked the Moonlight Altar Site of Grace atop the plateau, head northwest to the Ringleader’s Evergaol, where you’ll encounter Alecto, the Black Knife Ringleader. After defeating Alecto, you’ll earn the Black Knife Tiche Spirit Ashes.

Black Knife Tiche is notable for her damage over time, applied through her various knife swipes. She can nearly solo some bosses herself—though she will likely need help with the trickier ones like Malenia.

Cleanrot Knight Finlay

You’ll encounter the Legendary Ashen Remains of Cleanrot Knight Finlay in a chest in a room that’s adjacent to an outdoor gazebo slightly past the Prayer Room Site of Grace. Head straight out from the Site across a balcony until you reach a corpse hanging over a railing and a man staring straight ahead. Jump over that railing and land on the support beam, following it down. The Gazebo and room where Finlay is resting is to your left. You’ll need to fight a single Cleanrot Knight if you want to get to the chest safely.

Cleanrot Knight Finlay will likely be the last legendary set of Spirit Ashes you pick up on your journey through the Lands Between since the ashes are contained in a chest in Elphael, the Brace of the Haligtree. That region is recommended for players who are well over level 100, and the ashes of Cleanrot Knight Finlay are found deep into the area.

Finlay isn’t the most impressive Legendary Ashen Remain on this Elden Ring list, either. He can inflict Rot and heal you and your friends, so at least he serves as a damage-heavy support, but otherwise isn’t overly powerful.
