Marcel “Dexter” Feldkamp, one of the first in a growing number of foreign imports to the American LCS, has left Counter Logic Gaming. Feldkamp’s departure comes after a sixth place finish in the North American League Championship series and a 3:2 finish over Curse Academy in the Spring Promotion tournament, narrowly securing CLG’s spot in the 2015 season.
Feldkamp joined the team following the dissolution of Lemondogs, the European squad that took first place in the European LCS Season 3 regular season.
Feldkamp’s addition was a signal of a new era for Counter Logic Gaming. As one of the first European imports to North America, he filled the role of a true world-class jungler that CLG had been missing for years.
With his help, CLG rose to the top of North America. In their first split, the team placed third in the regular season. Following that, they remained in contention as a top North American team for over two months until strife between teammates eventually left CLG fighting for their spot in the next season.
Towards the end of Feldkamp’s time with CLG, the tension within the team became public. The first sign of these conflicts became apparent when CLG lost four games throughout weeks nine and 10 in the LCS regular season. At the same time, a mini-documentary series, “Chasing The Cup,” showcased the struggles CLG faced, including a clip of teammates arguing over their approach to practices.
Feldkamp hinted at the internal conflicts in his statement released today.
“But, as with every family, there were issues,” Feldkamp wrote. “Although I enjoyed the majority of my time with CLG, there were some rough patches.”
Feldkamp will now become a free agent, and says he is currently exploring “some opportunities.”
