Sony’s Haven studio has announced their rumored new project, Fairgame$, during today’s PlayStation Showcase. It looks to be some sort of heist game where groups of players will compete against each other, based on the short trailer.
The game looks strangely similar to HYENAS, a Ubisoft title that pits players against each other in much the same way. In the trailer, players can be seen taking on a range of characters in different disguises and firing at each other as they all try to break into the same facility.
There’s also a brief showing of a leaderboard, further giving credit to the idea that this will be a multiplayer game. It’s all cinematic though, so there’s no actual guarantee it will look anything like the video above when it is eventually revealed.
More information was shared on PlayStation’s blog, confirming the speculation that it was another competitive heist game. A direct quote from Haven’s Creative Director Mathieu Leduc notes that “Fairgame$ will give you an opportunity to break the rules as a modern-day Robin Hood, a thrill seeker, or just someone who wants to collect cool loot.”

This is a pretty generic description, but HYENAS was announced last year in the middle of summer with a similar cinematic trailer. With both games set to release in 2023, it could be that both of these titles compete against each other for a player base. Given that we don’t know much about what Fairgame$ gameplay will look like, players will have to wait and see which competitive heist game strikes their particular fancy.
