This NCAA Championships sponsor is definitely not Dota, but it sure looks like it

March Madness, college basketball’s finest hour, is about to launch into full swing, and mobile gaming smash hit Heroes Charge has its name plastered everywhere: half-time reports, commercial breaks, and just about anywhere there’s blank space in the ESPN studio. The Final Fantasy-esque, turn-based RPG features a combination of hand-held action and pixel art that nails a real sweet spot for nostalgic gamers and gaming newcomers alike.

For Dota fans in particular, the game strikes a familiar chord. Check out developer uCool’s 30-second ad spot, featuring Probably-Not-Zeus (aka Sword Master) and Definitely-Not-Sniper (aka, well, Sniper):

I mean, look at these guys. Heroes Charge Sniper is totally, definitely not Dota Sniper, right?

Fortunately for Probably-Not-Zeus, Lina’s twin sister Tina is there to save him from Generic-Rock-Guy’s attacks—a demonstration of the importance of teamwork in Definitely Not Dota

For gaming fans, the ad is reason to celebrate. With totally original content juxtaposed with true athletic artistry, Definitely Not Dota‘s exposure is sure to convert a few fans to its heart-pounding, wholly-original action by the time a champion is crowned. And who could blame them? There really is no other game quite like it.
