Elden Ring’s world is more interconnected than it initially seems. Exploring new areas can feel like a maze, but reaching your destination is usually well worth the effort.
One such destination in Elden Ring‘s base game is the Grand Lift of Rold, which leads to the Mountaintops of the Giants. You get here via the Rold Route, but it isn’t easy to reach without any prior knowledge or context. That’s where we come in. Continue reading to find out how to get to the Rold Route in Elden Ring.
Where to find the Rold Route in Elden Ring
To reach the Rold Route in Elden Ring, first, go to Leyndell, Royal Capital. Proceed through the Legacy Dungeon until you face Morgott, Omen King—the true identity of Margit, The Fell Omen. Defeating this boss is required to reach the Rold Route, as it opens the double doors in Leyndell leading to the lift—it’s also mandatory to beat the game.
Once you’ve taken care of Morgott, Melina gives you the Rold Medallion, an essential item used to activate the Grand Lift of Rold. Make your way back to the Avenue Balcony Site of Grace, then walk up the stairs and head left all the way down Leyndell’s main street. Keep walking down the road until you reach a giant set of doors. Since you’ve beaten The Omen King and hold the Rold Medallion, the doors will open for you.
Ahead of you lies the Rold Route. Be cautious in this area, though, because there are lots of powerful enemies here. After proceeding through the double doors, you’ll find yourself in an area covered in ash. There’s a stairway ahead of you, but lots of smaller enemies wandering around, along with an aggressive one at the back that might cause you a few problems.
It’s easy to get overwhelmed here, so you have two choices—either sprint up the stairs and across the bridge toward the Grand Lift of Rold or carefully pull the enemies one by one so you can grab all the loot in this area.
Once you arrive at the Grand Lift of Rold, all that’s left to do is Hoist the Rold Medallion to ascend the lift to the Mountaintops of the Giants.
