Map to map travel is now possible in Escape from Tarkov with patch 0.15, so you no longer need to pull up the main menu to travel between areas. While the rules may seem a bit tricky at first, don’t worry—we are here to help.
Introduced in patch 0.15, map to map travel in Escape from Tarkov lets you go between major areas without having to pull out the main menu. To help you learn the quirks of zapping between maps, the devs have added a new event mode called Marathon, as well as a task set and achievement, all carefully tailored to help you ease into the mechanic.
It’s a bit complicated, we know, but our guide should make the process a breeze.
How to unlock map to map travel in all raids in Escape from Tarkov
Initially, you can only travel between maps in the Marathon raid mode, which is a PvP event intended to introduce the new mechanic to you. You can load into a Marathon session from the raid select screen. Map to map travel in all raid modes will unlock after the Marathon event concludes, but Battlestate Games is yet to announce its end date.
When you load into a Marathon raid, you unlock the Sightseeing task, and Skier gives you a number of MS2000 Markers. Plant one at every transit location to complete the task.
While playing the Marathon event in Escape from Tarkov, you start from the Ground Zero map. The transit zones unlock seven minutes after the raid starts.
Once the zones are enabled, find the transit location to the next area, Streets of Tarkov, and use it to travel—and so on for other areas. At the time of writing, you can only move from one map to another in a particular order, which is:
- Ground Zero
- Streets of Tarkov
- Labs
- Customs
- Factory
- Woods
- Reserve
- Lighthouse
- Shoreline
So, you can travel from Factory to Woods, but you can’t transition from Factory to Lighthouse.
You have to mark nine passages to complete the Sightseeing task, earn the achievement, and unlock map to map travel in Escape from Tarkov. Here’s a list of all the objectives in the task:
- Mark the passage to Streets of Tarkov with an MS2000 Marker on Ground Zero
- Mark the passage to Interchange with an MS2000 Marker on Streets of Tarkov
- Mark the passage to The Lab with an MS2000 Marker on Streets of Tarkov
- Mark the passage to Streets of Tarkov with an MS2000 Marker on The Lab
- Mark the passage to Customs with an MS2000 Marker on Interchange
- Mark the passage to Factory with an MS2000 Marker on Customs
- Mark the passage to Woods with an MS2000 Marker on Factory
- Mark the passage to Reserve with an MS2000 Marker on Woods
- Mark the passage to Lighthouse with an MS2000 Marker on Reserve
- Mark the passage to Shoreline with an MS2000 Marker on Lighthouse
Transit directions are marked with a dotted line on the map, so you shouldn’t have much trouble locating the zones. You should see the option to “Plant” a marker when you reach the passage. After you successfully plant a marker, you have to defend the objective for 19 seconds for it to be marked complete.
You don’t have to plant all markers in one Marathon raid for the objectives to be marked complete, but you get the Marathon achievement if you manage to hit that feat.
How to travel between maps in Escape from Tarkov
You should be able to travel between maps in all Escape from Tarkov raids after the Marathon event ends, as mentioned in the patch notes. The rules of map to map traveling are simple: Visit the transit zone, pull out the context menu, and choose to transition to the next area.
Like you learned in the Marathon event, transit zones are enabled seven minutes into a raid. You can raid all you want during this time, but ensure your safety too. When you travel to a new location, you can move the items you raided at the previous location to your stash for a certain price.
If you are in a group, you all need to be in the transit zone to move to a different map. You don’t need to be in a group to travel to the next map together; as long as you are in the same transit zone and use it together, everyone should reach the next map at the same time. This means solo players can also join a group and travel between maps together.
