Professional soccer player Mesut Özil has revealed his plans to team up with German esports consulting agency Esports Reputation to form a brand-new organization.
The team will be focused on FIFA titles and has made no announcement about entering any other esports at this time.
Özil, who plays for English club Arsenal, made the announcement on social media yesterday. The 29-year-old said that he’ll be on the lookout for players from around the world to represent his team in future FIFA competitions.
Esports Reputation offers years of expertise in the competitive gaming scene and focuses on representing various players from around the world. One of the competitors that the organization looks after, for example, is professional League of Legends player Tristan “PowerOfEvil” Schrage, who’s the starting mid laner for OpTic Gaming in the NA LCS.
Özil isn’t the first player from the English Premier League to create a team for the FIFA scene, however. Leicester City defender Christian Fuchs announced his plans to create his own organization in June—and he intends to expand into other esports in the future.

German club Schalke 04 is also heavily investing in the esports scene and has a professional League of Legends team competing in the EU LCS at this time. They’re in fifth place in the EU LCS at the time of writing and they’re fighting for a potential spot in the 2018 World Championship this October to represent the European region as a whole.
