It doesn’t matter if some tournaments are dropping independent Super Smash Bros. mod Project M, the team is still hard at work adding updates.
During the Aftershock Smash tournament in Dallas this past weekend, the Project M team premiered the new trailer for version 3.6.
Project M was created after the release of Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii in 2008. The hope was to create a fighter that was faster, more technical, and balanced than Brawl. As more versions released, more features were added, from new music to stages to even characters. To many, it was a superior version of Super Smash Bros.
The team has also introduced support to run the game via emulation on PC’s, giving players the ability to play in HD.
As Nintendo continues to get more involved with major Smash Bros. tournaments, however, Project M seems to be getting pushed aside. The company doesn’t like a modified version of one of its games being played over the actual versions. Because of this, Project M is being relegated to smaller tournaments. Even popular Smash Bros. streamer VGBootCamp, fearing potential litigation from Nintendo, has dropped Project M streams and has removed all Project M videos from its YouTube channel.
