But what exactly is the new 100 Thieves video game?

There’s still plenty of unknown information about the game since it’s in the early stages of its development. Still, 100 Thieves has already provided some hints and updates about Project X and what the game might look like.

Here’s everything we know about Project X, including genre, release date, and more.

What is Project X?

Project X is a game that is being developed by 100 Thieves. The name Project X is a code name for the project for now, and it will eventually receive its official name at some point in the future.

Project X is still incredibly early in its development, but 100 Thieves said that it was going to take a different approach to making a video game, beginning with input from its pros and content creators, instead of designing and building the game first, and then getting the input from players.

In November 2022, 100 Thieves shared an update on Project X that featured the beginning of that process in a playable prototype of the game.

From the update video, it’s clear that Project X will be a first-person shooter and that the 100 Thieves team wants it to look bright and colorful, as opposed to drab, realistic-looking shooters like many Call of Duty maps. After that, it’s still quite unclear what Project X might be. Creators referenced ideas from CoD, VALORANT, and battle royale games as different inspirations and possibilities for the direction in which the org might take Project X.

Two ideas are explicitly mentioned in the update video: a ranked version of CoD’s Search and Destroy mode and a VALORANT-esque five-vs-five mode that features a battle royale-style ring that forces teams into each other. There’s also mention that there might be characters with different abilities that feature in the game. Regardless, it’s still early on in development and all of these ideas remain brainstorms for the project, not definitive directions that the game will take.

Project X also has at least one dedicated 100T employee working on it: Pete Hawley. Hawley’s credits in game development include work on titles like Fable, Black, Little Big Planet, and Killzone. He was also an executive producer on Burnout Paradise. What stands out about Hawley’s credentials is the sheer variety of games that he’s developed, which should serve him well given how many ideas 100 Thieves already has for the possible direction of Project X

When does Project X release?

Project X does not yet have an official release date. As the game is still early in its development, it will most likely be a couple of years before we see the game or even get a release window.

Robinson did mention the 100T team is “bad at keeping secrets,” and as there’s already been an official update on the game, it seems like fans will be able to expect more updates to appear from Project X semi-regularly over the next couple of years.
