Wordle game help: 5-letter words with ‘A’ and ‘H’

The amount of options depends on where those two letters are.

Starting with a strong word is one of the fans’ favorite strategies on Wordle. Because there are no clues before the guesses and the letters themselves turn into clues after each guess, longtime players have been debating over which starting words can provide the most information. That usually involves vowels and the most common consonants, which are more likely to be part of the word.

Depending on where the “A” and the “H” are, you might have more or less options left. Even if those letters came out yellow and you don’t know exactly where they are in the word, the first thing you can do is cross out all options in which they appear in the wrong places. Once you find those green boxes, keep only the words containing the letters in the correct positions.

You should also cross out all words containing letters that came out gray in previous guesses, to narrow down your pool even further.

The next step should be figuring out what the new letters are. Start from the most common ones, like “L,” “P,” “R,” and “T,” also including vowels like “E” or “O,” depending on the options you have left and the letters you haven’t used yet. Some of the words contain a second instance of the “A” instead—don’t assume it will be the case for you, but keep in mind that it might be and always check your remaning options. Watch out for those plural words ending in “S,” because, even though they are valid guesses, Wordle will never pick them as answers.

If you’re still unsure and don’t want to wait until Wordle resets at midnight local time, you can always look up the answer to today’s puzzle (which we update around 12am CT).
