When it comes to esports, games like League of Legends and Starcraft 2 make the most headlines. But they’re not the only games with a huge player base, and big money prizes.
Take World of Tanks, for instance: $300,000 will be on the line at the recently announced world finals for the massively popular game.
Made by Belarusian company Wargame.net, World of Tanks is a massively multiplayer online game that puts players in control of customizable tanks—and it has a huge player player base, with 75 million registered accounts as of 2013.
In the Grand Finals, which will take place from April 4-6, 2014 in Poland, 14 players will come together to duke it out for a trophy nicknamed “The Monolith” and the lion’s share of the impressive $300,000 prize pool.
What makes this tournament interesting is how the money is going to be distributed. The more losses you get, the less money you earn. So if the first-place winners wants to walk home with the largest amount of cash possible, they’ll need to win as many battles as they can.
Additionally, the Grand Finals will see something called the “Blitz Mechanism”, a nifty conceit that awards the team capable of defeating their opponent in the quickest time possible with extra moolah.
