Should you upgrade Bennett to C6 in Genshin Impact?

Bennett is often called a "secret five-star," but C6 can nerf his abilities.

The process of unlocking characters’ full potential in Genshin Impact is a lengthy one. One way to drastically improve any character’s performance is through Constellations, but Bennett’s sixth Constellation in particular can do you more harm than good.

Constellations are obtained when you roll a duplicate of a character you already have. Because the four-star characters in Genshin Impact are relatively common, it is usually easy to unlock the character’s Constellations if they are featured on the Wish banner.

While most Constellations are upgrades to the characters, Bennett’s C6 can instead be an irreversible downgrade since there’s no way to disable the Constellation once it’s unlocked. If you got the last copy of Bennett, here’s whether or not you should upgrade him to C6.

As a general advice, no, you shouldn’t C6 Bennett in Genshin Impact. His C6 is way too niche, and unless you have a team composition with builds made specifically to take advantage of this Constellation, there’s no point in unlocking it.

Bennett is widely regarded in the Genshin community as one of the best support characters available in the game despite him being only a four-star character. His Elemental Burst, “Fantastic Voyage,” provides high attack buffs and healing, making Bennett the most universal and versatile support in the game.

With Bennett’s sixth Constellation, “Fire Ventures with Me,” he loses most of his versatility. The Constellation grants a 15 percent Pyro damage bonus to Sword, Claymore, and Polearm characters who are within range of his Elemental Burst, “Fantastic Voyage,” and infuses their weapons with Pyro.

At first glance, this may sound like a decent upgrade, but at a closer look, Bennett’s C6 is a nerf to both Bennett’s and his team members’ abilities because of the Pyro infusion. Although it doesn’t affect all the characters, Pyro infusion can break your DPS characters especially those who rely on Normal Attacks since they’ll be forced to deal Pyro damage. If you keep him at C5, the only thing you lose is the 15 percent Pyro damage bonus, which isn’t that bad.

I upgraded Bennett to C6 solely because I never used him for over three years of playing the game, and I don’t plan to. Considering there are plenty of great supports in Genshin Impact and multiple niche team compositions, I don’t feel like I’m losing out on much.

Generally, Bennett’s C6 will be completely neutral with most of Teyvat’s playable character roster. Characters who are not using Sword, Claymore, or Polearm, like Wriothesley or Ganyu, can play with Bennett and not get affected by his C6. Characters with an infusion of their own that cannot be overridden, like Alhaitham, can also play with Bennett quite comfortably.

However, there are quite a few characters that will suffer drastically from having a C6 Bennett on the team. Characters like Eula, Ayaka, and Keqing. Any on-field DPS character reliant on Normal Attacks will likely be affected by the Constellation because of its infusion.

If your Eula, who is typically built into an on-field Physical damage dealer, will be affected by Bennet’s C6, she’ll lose a ton of her damage. Because her build leans into Physical Damage Bonus, she won’t be able to use the stat with Pyro infusion, making her useless. The same logic applies to most characters, including supports that use Normal Attacks like Jean.

Most players talk about the bad side of Bennett’s C6, but it also comes with some strong benefits for certain characters. The characters that will benefit from a C6 Bennett by their side include damage dealers like Diluc, Yoimiya, and Klee. You could even pair him with Hu Tao if you don’t have a good shielder at the moment.

One of the most recent additions to the game, Chevreuse, also has incredible synergy with Bennett. Chevreuse’s team compositions are based around the Overload reactions, meaning you’re bound to have an Electro or Pyro DPS on the team, and unless you’re using Keqing, Bennett’s C6 can fit in really well.

The final decision will ultimately depend on how you plan to use Bennett (if at all). If you have something specific in mind, you can go for it, but remember there’s no coming back. Another thing to remember is future Genshin Impact characters could also be affected by Bennett’s C6. Then again, new support characters will also be added to the game, and there are always options to use someone other than Bennett.
