So far, there has been no official confirmation by Sucker Punch, the game’s development studio, about a second Ghost of Tsushima game. This means there could be no sequel planned, or the developers want to keep the project under wraps for now.

While we lack official confirmation, there’s no shortage of rumors swirling around the industry about the potential sequel.

The theories surrounding the potential sequel started in 2022, when Sucker Punch posted on job boards looking to recruit employees. These job postings were searching for employees who could work on a new open-world game with stealth and exploration elements and had previous experience with Sucker Punch games.

This left gamers to speculate about what Sucker Punch could be cooking up, and many believed it could be a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima or a new Sly Cooper game. The Sly Cooper rumors were quickly shut down by reporter Jason Schreier, who claimed on X (formerly Twitter) that “Sucker Punch is a one-project studio.” While he did not include any sources to his claims, Schreier believed, at least at the time, that the studio is solely focused on a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima.

Schreier also highlighted that modern game development takes serious effort and time, since most studios are taking five to seven years to publish a game. Based on Schreier’s speculations, the studio’s next game would be released in late 2025 at the earliest, since this would match up with a five-year timeline.

Now that Ghost of Tsushima has been released on modern platforms, Sucker Punch has no future games confirmed, meaning the developers are likely hard at work on something. While it’s unclear when, or if, Sucker Punch will reveal what they are cooking, fans remain hopeful their favorite RPG will get a sequel.
