With a grand finals victory over TOX Gaming, Splyce have become the 2018 Halo World Championship Finals winners, claiming half of the $1 million prize pool.
Today’s tournament victory is just another phase in Splyce’s run of dominance over the past several months. Starting at MLG Orlando in February, Splyce have won three straight events and they look better than ever. This is also the second straight tournament where Splyce took down TOX in the grand finals.
Splyce began their championship bracket run with a win over Team Infused and followed that up with a victory over Team Envy. In the winners finals, Splyce took down the defending world champs as they beat TOX Gaming 4-1.
Despite falling in the winners finals, TOX fought their way back in the losers finals against Team Envy to secure yet another grand finals appearance in the Halo World Championship.
But once they were in the grand finals, TOX, the two-time Halo world-title roster, were controlled from the very beginning by Splyce in the seven-game series. The team that won the first two HWC tournaments under CLG and OpTic Gaming saw their three-peat hopes crushed by Jonathan “Renegade” Willette, Anthony “Shotzzy” Cuevas-Castro, Braedon “StelluR” Boettcher, and Kevin “Eco” Smith in agonizing fashion.
TOX made history by reaching their third grand finals at the world title tournament, but Splyce have cemented their legacy in competitive Halo and further solidified their status as the best team on the planet.
