AKAWonder wins his first Hearthstone major in Katowice

One of the most consistent Hearthstone players in 2015 was rewarded for his performances today, taking out his first ever major title in Katowice.

SK Gaming‘s Esteban “AKAWonder” Serrano took victory at the ESL Legendary Series Katowice event, winning $5,000 and 15 Hearthstone Championship Tour points.

The Spaniard had six top-eight finishes in major events last year, including semi-final appearances at DreamHack Summer 2015 and Gamegune 2015—but the Katowice event was his first time in a major final.

The 15 points will vault Serrano into fourth place in the European Hearthstone Championship Tour standings—though there are a lot of events before the Spring Championship takes place.

Serrano defeated Russian Vladislav “SilverName” Sinotov 3-0 in the final, piloting the popular lineup of Paladin, Druid, and Warlock.

After a gruelling qualification process the field of eight that assembled in Katowice for the one day event did not include any major names. Only Josh “Impact” Graham, formerly of Luminosity Gaming and ManaLight, was known to the fans watching, and he did not make it past the round of eight.

The victory is the second major win for SK Gaming’s Hearthstone side, after Sebastian “Spo” Sjöbäck won the GIGACON Prime tournament in October. The team had been living together in a gaming house towards the end of last year, but is currently relocating.
