Team Liquid just picked up its first Hearthstone pro.
Many competitive Heartstone fans have long wondered when long-running esports organization, which also has professional StarCraft 2, Dota 2, and Super Smash Brothers squads, would officially sink their teeth into the new esport. The organization launched Liquid Hearth, a sister site to its massively popular StarCraft forum, late last year. And one of its employees, Kevin “Monk” Dong, played at ESGN’s Fight Nights while with a team called “Liquid Value.”
Now the wait is officially over. The team announced today that Jason “Amaz” Chan would be the first member of their professional Hearthstone division, with his contract being bought out from ROOT Gaming for an undisclosed amount of money.
“Root Gaming was open-minded to the wishes of Amaz and it was smooth working things out with them,” Team Liquid’s CEO Victor “Nazgul” Goossens said in a statement.
Chan, who had finished tied for third at DreamHack Bucharest earlier this year, is one of the world’s most well-known Hearthstone players. His Twitch stream recently boasted a concurrent viewer count of 33,000.
Chan will make his debut as a Team Liquid player this weekend at DreamHack Summer’s $25,000 Heartsthone tournament taking place in Jönköping, Sweden.
