In Hearthstone’s parent game, World of Warcraft, Rexxar is the most iconic Beastmaster who has ever lived.
It’s no surprise that, as a result, he was chosen to be the face of the Hunter class in Hearthstone. For years now, Rexxar and his beasts have dominated Hearthstone’s ranked ladder with a plethora of unique archetypes. Notable archetypes of years past include Face Hunter, Beast Hunter, and Deathrattle Hunter, to name a few.
The Hunter class plays host to one of the most frustrating Hero Powers you’ll ever play against in Hearthstone: Steady Shot. For two mana, the Hunter player can deal two damage directly to your health and there isn’t a thing you can do about it. That means you have to be careful when playing at low health against a Hunter because they always have, at the very least, two damage available.
That being said, the majority of fun Hunter decks focus on intricate minion play, primarily through the Beast minion type. With the March of the Lich King expansion, there are even more minion types in the game, something Hunter unsurprisingly takes advantage of.
Since March of the Lich King is just under a month old, it is important to craft any of the following lists with caution. If you’re a Hunter main, though, odds are you already have a fair amount of the cards you’ll need. With that in mind, here are the Hunter decks crushing the ladder since the launch of March of the Lich King.
Beast Hunter
Would it be Standard Hearthstone without a viable version of Beast Hunter? Based on statistics, the above list is actually far beyond viable. At time of writing, this version of Beast Hunter has an impressive 66 percent win rate out of 6,300 reported games on HSReplay.net. Beast Hunter was a strong deck before the launch of March of the Lich King and now it seems to be even stronger.
You’ll be running Prince Renathal, which means your deck size is 40 and your starting health will be 35. This gives you the ability to play way more Beasts than usual, giving your more ways to overrun your opponent. The biggest downside of Beast Hunter is its cost. If you were to make this one from scratch (which is not recommended), it’d cost you nearly 20,000 dust. That being said, if you love a deck with a ton of hard-hitting Legendaries, this one is for you.

Shockspitter Hunter
If you’re a Hunter player looking for something fresh, then look no further. Shockspitter Hunter is a new archetype made possible by cards from March of the Lich King. The primary card that makes this deck tick is its namesake, Shockspitter. A three-cost 2/2 Beast, Shockspitter has a Battlecry that deals one damage but is improved by your Hero Attacks throughout the game.
As you can imagine, the deck involves a variety of ways to buff up Shockspitter. If you’re someone who has been playing Hunter for a long time, you’ll have no problem adapting to this deck. If you are looking for a completely fresh playstyle and archetype, Shockspitter Hunter is your best choice. You could make the entire deck from scratch for around 8,420 dust.

Face Hunter
Again, would it really be Standard Hearthstone without a viable version of Face Hunter? One of the deck’s most basic archetypes, Face Hunter revolves around maximizing damage to your opponent’s health as quickly as possible, oftentimes through the use of Hunter’s Hero Power, Steady Shot. For two mana, Steady Shot deals two damage directly to the enemy Hero.
You’ll also be using a variety of powerful, fast-acting Beasts to chip away at your opponent. Your two big finishers here are Hydralodon and King Krush. Hydralodon is a Colossal minion that summons extra heads with Rush. King Krush is a gigantic T-Rex and a mainstay of the Hunter class. For nine mana, King Krush comes in as an 8/8 Beast with Charge. If you want a simple yet effective Hunter deck, Face Hunter is for you.
