Knights of the Frozen Throne adds a new card type to Hearthstone: the Hero Card. Unique to each class, the Hero Card triggers an effect when it enters the battlefield, gives the Hero armor, and provides a Hero Power.
Today, the Druid Hero Card, Malfurion the Pestilent, has been revealed.
Malfurion the Pestilent costs seven mana and offers the player a selection of choices when it enters play. When Malfurion enters the battlefield, the player may choose between summoning two Poisonous spiders or two scarabs with Taunt. The right choice relies on a correct evaluation of the board state and how the Druid player plans to win the game.
Malfurion offers a choice when changing the Hero Power as well. The player may choose between a power that provides three attack or three armor for the turn. Malfurion offers both aggressive and defensive options to the player and looks to be one of the most flexible Hero Cards we’ve seen thus far.
In the spirit of choices, Druid of the Swarm offers the player a decision between two different minion types. For two mana, Druid of the Swarm may turn into a 1/2 Poisonous minion or a 1/5 with Taunt. The Poisonous minion trades up on an empty board and the Taunt minion stems the tide against an aggressive start from the opponent.
Malfurion the Pestilent looks to be another strong addition to Druid in Knights of the Frozen Throne. With its flexible ability to impact the board and the already revealed Ultimate Infestation, the Druid class may be a powerful one once the set releases on Aug. 10.
