Honkai: Star Rail’s first set of dual five-star banners is airing for the second half of the Version 1.4 update with Topaz and Numby’s debut alongside a rerun for Seele.
The first banner pair yet was going to feature a tough choice for players no matter what, but this is an especially daunting one since both Topaz and Numby and Seele are part of The Hunt path, which means they possess fairly similar combat styles.
There’s a lot to consider when deciding whether to pull for the two-in-one character Topaz and Numby or for the first five-star ever Seele, so here’s everything you should know about their abilities and whether they’re worth adding to your roster.
Topaz and Numby’s abilities and skills in Honkai: Star Rail
The two-in-one character Topaz and Numby has five primarily single-target-focused abilities to complement their role as a Hunt recruit.
- “Deficit…” basic attack: Deals Fire damage equal to 50 to 130 percent of Topaz’s attack against one targeted opponent.
- Ability type: Single-target attack
- “Difficulty Paying?” skill: Activates the Proof of Debt status on the targeted enemy, which raises follow-up attack damage against them by 25 to 62.5 percent. Proof of Debt will only remain active on the most recently selected opponent it was activated on. If there are no enemies affected by Proof of Debt when a teammate’s turn starts or when an ally makes an action, Topaz will activate it on a random enemy. Numby will deal 75 to 187.5 percent of Topaz’s attack as Fire damage against the singular selected enemy. When you use this ability to deal damage, it is considered a follow-up attack.
- Ability type: Single-target attack
- “Turn a Profit!” Ultimate: Numby triggers the Windfall Bonanza! state and increases their damage multiplier by 75 to 187.5 percent and their critical damage by 12 to 31.25 percent. When opponents affected by Proof of Debt are hit by a basic attack, skill, or Ultimate from an ally, Numby’s action is advanced forward by 50 percent. Numby will be in the Windfall Bonanza! state until they have made two attacks.
- Ability type: Enhancement
- “Trotter Market!?” talent: Numby is summoned at the start of the battle and starts at 80 speed. When taking an action, Numby initiates follow-up attacks on a selected enemy under the effects of Proof of Debt and deals Fire damage equal to 75 to 187.5 percent of Topaz’s attack against them. When opponents affected by Proof of Debt are struck by a follow-up attack, Numby’s action is then advanced forward by 50 percent. This ability cannot be activated when it is Numby’s turn, and if Topaz falls while in battle, Numby will vanish.
- Ability type: Single-target attack
- “Explicit Subsidy” technique: Summons Numby to the overworld as a companion. Numby will then start searching for other Warp Trotters and hidden treasures in the nearby area. Additionally, this ability will regenerate 60 energy for Topaz after the first attack Numby makes in the next battle. If Topaz is still part of the team after using her technique and vanquishing overworld enemies, the player gets Credits after the battle has finished. This ability can grant up to 10,000 Credits each day. If Topaz uses her Technique while in the Simulated Universe and vanquishes enemies there, she’ll acquire Cosmic Fragments and also has a small chance of obtaining one random Curio for the team.

Seele’s abilities and skills in Honkai: Star Rail
Like most other Honkai: Star Rail recruits, Seele has five unique abilities. Since she’s part of The Hunt, all of her abilities are dedicated to dealing damage against single-targeted opponents
- “Thwack” basic attack: Deals Quantum damage equal to 50 to 130 percent of Seele’s basic attack against the selected opponent.
- Ability type: Single-target attack
- “Sheathed Blade” skill: Deals 110 to 275 percent of Seele’s basic attack as damage against the targeted enemy. Seele’s speed is also raised by 25 percent for two turns.
- Ability type: Single-target attack
- “Butterfly Flurry” Ultimate: Seele enters the buffed state and deals Quantum damage equal to 255 to 510 percent of her Quantum damage against the selected target.
- Ability type: Single-target attack
- “Resurgence” talent: Seele activates the buffed state after defeating an opponent and immediately receives an extra action. While in the buffed state, Seele’s damage is raised by 40 to 100 percent for one turn. Foes who are defeated during “Resurgence” do not activate another bonus action for Seele to take through this talent.
- Ability type: Enhancement
- “Phantom Illusion” technique: Seele becomes invisible and undetectable for 20 seconds as she activates Stealth. If you attack an enemy while in this state to enter battle, Seele begins with the buffed state already active.

Are Topaz and Numby good in Honkai: Star Rail?
If you’re seeking a powerful single-target-focused unit, Topaz and Numby is one of the strongest characters you can pull for. This dynamic duo excels at dishing out brutal and efficient damage against single-targeted enemies.
Most of Topaz and Numby’s damage dealing originates from follow-up attacks Numby delivers. If you’re familiar with how Jing Yuan and his Lightning Lord work, then you have a decent idea of what to expect with Topaz and Numby on your team.
This duo also has some of the most useful expiration abilities of all. Numby will help you scout out precious Warp Trotters for Stellar Jade and nearby treasure chests to grant you some great loot. Topaz will grant you up to 10,000 Credits per day, so you’ll never have to worry about farming this resource again.
Overall, Topaz and Numby have an extremely unique and powerful kit that makes them worth pulling for if you have a place for them on your team or if you’re willing to make one.
Is Seele good in Honkai: Star Rail?
Seele is a quick-paced single-target DPS who excels at dishing out brutal damage. She is one of Honkai: Star Rail’s most effective DPS units, especially if you need a damage dealer who will focus on one target at a time.
She is one of my personal favorite characters. I pulled for her back when she first launched on April 25, 2023, and I’ve had her on my team ever since, even though I could have replaced her with other characters if I’d wanted to. What I love most about Seele’s skillset is her incredible speed and ability to take many turns in a row without stopping.
The Quantum character can also go invisible in overworld exploration so you can get where you need to go without having to enter battle every time you cross paths with a pesky enemy. It’s a very useful tool and it’s probably the technique I use most frequently out of all my playable characters.
Seele is an incredible damage dealer and she’s certainly worth pulling for if you need a strong single-target recruit. She’s also incredibly easy to master, so if you’re intimidated by more complex skillsets, Seele is a great pull for you since she is a straightforward but immensely powerful character.
Should you pull for Topaz and Numby or Seele in Honkai: Star Rail?
If you don’t already have a dedicated single target DPS, you should absolutely pull for either Topaz and Numby or Seele. This banner matchup features some of Honkai: Star Rail’s best characters yet, so you won’t regret pulling on either one.
Whether you should pull for Topaz and Numby or Seele will ultimately come down to personal preference as their skillsets are fairly evenly matched. They are both five-star characters aligned with The Hunt path, although Seele wields Quantum and Topaz and Numby wield Fire, so you could use this as a determining factor if you’re struggling to decide.
Based on my experience with both characters, I would recommend pulling for Seele over Topaz and Numby. Even though their skillsets are fairly matched, I find Seele to have a slight edge over Topaz and Numby in combat due to her unmatched speed and agility.
Although I already have Seele, Topaz and Numby’s skillset is too fun to skip, so I’ll probably be pulling for them too. You really can’t go wrong pulling for either banner since both characters come with a powerful skillset and fun features capable of enhancing general gameplay.
Another reason you’ll want to pull for one of the two banners is if you’re hoping to recruit the new four-star Fire Nihility character Guinaifen. She’s the very first Fire Nihility recruit and her drop rate is increased on both banners, so pulling for either grants you a strong chance of recruiting her.
Topaz and Numby’s debut banner will be live from Oct. 27 to Nov. 12, as will Seele’s first rerun. Neither character will become available for quite some time after this, so be sure to pull for them while you can if you’re hoping to add them to your roster.
