Every part of the Hogwarts castle and the wizarding world within Hogwarts Legacy seems alive, and this is perhaps most true within the iconic Room of Requirement; a location that constantly evolves to fulfill those in need. It’s also where you’ll find a Golden Snitch flying around.
The Golden Snitch is perhaps the most iconic and tricky ball to catch. It’s a crucial part of Quidditch, the famous wizarding sport, though Qudditich itself isn’t playable in Hogwarts Legacy. Still, the appearance of the Golden Snitch in the Room of Requirement has players wondering if it has a purpose—and perhaps more importantly, whether it can actually be caught.
How to find the Hogwarts Legacy Room of Requirement Golden Snitch
While navigating through the debris and exploring the Room of Requirement for the first time, you’ll come across a Golden Snitch. It’ll zip past them, and your character will wonder aloud whether they actually saw a Golden Snitch because of how quickly it moved. Don’t worry; you did see the Golden Snitch. You weren’t imagining it.
If you walk in the direction the Golden Snitch zoomed away in, you can hear and see it behind some wooden planks. Now you’ve found the Golden Snitch, and because your character comments on it, it’s difficult to know whether you’re are supposed to try and catch it (and fulfill your Seeker dreams in the process) or if it’s actually just another way to create an immersive and magical experience in Hogwarts.
Can you get the Golden Snitch in the Room of Requirement?
No, the Golden Snitch is not an obtainable asset and is simply a red herring. It seems like the Golden Snitch was included to show you that you could obtain secret loot hidden in the area where it continued to float. Despite it’s status a highly prized item, however, and because the situation is so vague, all it’s done is confuse most of the player base since they believed they were supposed to try to catch it rather than obtain the loot near it.
While it’s sad that you can’t catch yourself a Golden Snitch, you can get the loot that it’s attempting to reveal to you. The problem with this, though, is the Hogwarts Legacy area where the Golden Snitch is flying can’t immediately be reached. However, if you happen to know a handy spell, you can summon the stacked chests sitting right beneath it.
How to get the Room of Requirement Golden Snitch chest
To get the Golden Snitch chest in the Room of Requirement, you need to cast “Levioso” and “Accio” on the block at the center of the room to move it out of the way.
Then, pull the Golden Snitch chest towards you using “Accio,” and cast it again on the chest from the hidden room on the right to draw it toward the barrier. Once it’s there, you’ll be able to open it and obtain a random piece of gear (I got a hat).
This is what you need to do to get the Gold Snitch chest:
- Cast “Levioso” and “Accio” on the block behind the first barricade (to the left of the painting) and move it as far left as you can. You may need to walk to the left and around to the other side while holding “Accio” to get it completely up and out of the way.
- Once it’s out of the way, cast “Accio” on the stacked chests at the back of the barricaded room and pull them toward your character until it’s against the barricade.
- Head to the right of the painting and move the box blocking the hole. It doesn’t matter what you do with it, so long as you can duck inside this hidden room.
- Inside the room, walk towards the second barricade, cast “Accio” once again on the stacked chests, and pull it toward your character until you can interact with it.
- Then, all you need to do is interact with the chest and obtain a random gear piece.
Figuring this out was a bit tricky unless you listened to the various in-game sounds. Then, you might have heard the man in the nearby painting making a joke. When the Golden Snitch flies past, he mentions you have to “summon” it; a vital clue.
Without that clue, you might have struggled with this clue if you missed it or weren’t paying attention to anything other than chasing the Snitch. I’ll admit, I even tried to stack the boxes and jump over the barricade. However, that plan failed spectacularly.
It’s unfortunate we can’t get the Golden Snitch in the Room of Requirement. But at least it leads us to a fun puzzle and a bit of loot to either equip (or sell, if you get unlucky).
