Former Winterfox AD carry Johnny “Altec” Ru has joined North American League of Legends Championship Series team Gravity, sources close to the organization and player tell the Daily Dot.
This news comes shortly after Ru reportedly declined an offer from recently-LCS qualified Team Dragon Knights. The Dragon Knights announced their new roster earlier today, with Kim “Emperor” Jin-hyun in the starting marksman role, which left many wondering where Ru would end up. Ru has also recently been spotted duo queueing with Gravity support Michael “Bunny FuFuu” Kurylo on the North American server.
Ru will be replacing veteran David “Cop” Roberson, who joined the team last year ahead of 2015 Expansion Tournament. On the back of Roberson and other team veteran Brandon “SaintVicious” DiMarco, Gravity (then known as Curse Academy) qualified for the League Championship Series on Dec 13. Curse was forced to sell the team, however, as LCS rules prohibit an organization from owning more than one team competing in the league.
Under new owner Davis Vague and his Gravity brand, the team exceeded expectations. The team placed in fifth-sixth place in the North American LCS playoffs in the Spring Split, tying other well-known League squad Counter Logic Gaming.
The offseason has been quite the mix up for the team, however. On May 11, DiMarco announced on his Facebook page that he’d be stepping down and had played in his “last competitive match ever.”
Praised as one of the best up-and-coming marksmen in the west, Ru was a star on his previous team, Winterfox. Thanks to a revolving door in the support position at Winterfox, Ru played with three different support players during his time with the squad. But the roster instability never managed to trip up his play.
Winterfox and Gravity declined to comment on this article.
Update 9:17pm CT, May 18: Riot Games has officially announced Altec has joined Gravity Gaming.
