With nearly 170 champions on the League of Legends roster, there will always be some that are just stronger than others, which means players are always looking for the very best champs to use to win ranked games.
That remains true in Season 14, especially after the huge item overhaul and major Summoner’s Rift revamp heading into 2024. Even early on, powerful new picks have already started to emerge, with many quickly hitting incredible win rates.
Here are the 10 best League champions to play in Patch 14.2 so far.
Best League champs in Patch 14.2
Top lane
Trundle
Having a straightforward kit doesn’t mean you can’t be a strong champion in League. Trundle is living proof of such a theory. His tasks on Summoner’s Rift are soaking up damage and trying to isolate enemy carries, in which he excels in Patch 14.2. He’s especially dangerous when picked for the top lane, but he can also do well in the jungle.
Zac
Zac received minor buffs in League’s Patch 14.1 and immediately slingshotted himself into the top of top lane rankings. That’s no different after the latest update, where Zac continues to wreak havoc on the Summoner’s Rift. His mobility and engage capabilities are currently unmatched. Combined with tanky items, they make Zac a truly brilliant option if you’re looking for strong top-lane picks.
Jungle
Brand
Another champion in an unusual role in season 14 is Brand in the jungle. The mage is usually connected with the mid-lane, deservedly so. But, the latest changes to mages ignited a true spark in jungle Brand. While building solely ability power items, Brand has an incredibly fast jungle clear, and with his Sear (Q), he also possesses some immense ganking potential. But, he shines the most in the later stages of the game, where his damage can burn through most enemies.
Lillia
In the second jungle slot we have Lillia. Similarly to Brand, the AP items change transformed her into one of the strongest junglers in the meta. But, she does not only deal a lot of damage, but also has immense ganking potential, is exceptionally mobile for a jungler, and has some admirable CC under her belt. All in all, she’s a stellar pick.
Mid lane
Gragas
Throughout the years, Gragas has been picked in every role with great effect, except the AD carry. In Patch 14.2, he returns to his roots in the mid-lane. His mobility, damage, and abilities to roam and navigate team fights make him an all-around strong pick for the position, where he is enjoying a 53.26 percent win rate. He isn’t played a huge amount (that honor goes to Twisted Fate) but no one beats the Rabble Rouser for victories right now.
Swain
Swain is one of those picks you barely see in pro play, but in solo queue he can cause quite a commotion. This time around, it’s not only in one role but in two, as he reigns supreme in mid-lane and ADC. That is, obviously, thanks to his unique kit. When he gets ahead, Swain can output massive damage while also being incredibly tough to take down thanks to Demonic Ascension (R).
Bot lane
Miss Fortune
The first ADC in this list is Miss Fortune. She was always an all-in pick, and when combined with proper supports, she can easily deal tons of damage with her Bullet Time (R) and other abilities. To do that, however, she needs proper protection or setup. But, with certain supports or tanks like Maokai, you won’t have many issues.
Jhin
Jhin may be a pretty standard choice for bot lane (he’s played in 19.9 percent of games) but he’s got that position for a reason; the Virtuoso should be the first champion you’re looking to lock in whenever you play bot lane in season 14. With his long-range damage and great crowd-control to help out if he falls behind, Jhin brings something to every team he’s in. Even without gold, he can help his mage carries push for the win.
Support
Zyra
While Zyra is the only traditional spell-slinging support on the list, it’s all but surprising. She received some minor buffs in Patch 13.21, which solidified her as one of the best poke supports you could pick. Since then, she’s truly a magnificent and flexible pick for many ADCs.
Blitzcrank
There’s signing spells, like Zyra, and then there are playmaking hook champs with Blitzcrank. The Great Steam Golem only wins around 51.05 percent of games but that’s more impressive when you clock in that he has appeared in more than half a million games this update. Add to that he only makes it through the ban phase in three of four lobbies and it’s clear the hook-heavy robot remains one of the most dangerous supports early this season.
Versatile all-rounder
Maokai
Some things never change, like the fact Maokai is still in the meta. It’s far from surprising, though; he’s been a stellar choice for top, jungle, and support for many months, and the resurgence of tank items in season 14 solidifies him in these roles. Maokai’s survivability and unmatched engage possibilities make him one of the most versatile and powerful picks in League.
