Best supports for Ezreal in League of Legends

One of the most well-known ADCs in League of Legends is the Prodigal Explorer, Ezreal. He is a moderately difficult marksman who is known for being a troublemaker. When battling on the Rift, Ezreal needs a support that can synergize well with his abilities and mitigate the cons of this champion, just like any other AD carry.

While there are technically more than 30 supports in League, not all of them work well with Ezreal. That said, there are seven that are ideal and can help the Prodigal Explorer reach new heights on the Rift.

The seven best supports to play with Ezreal in League

The best supports for Ezreal include Nami, Braum, Maokai, Taric, Amumu, Bard, Soraka, and Leona because they offer various forms of CC, stuns, and slows, which are crucial in helping Ezreal achieve his skill shots.

Nami

Nami is a solid support choice for Ezreal, as her innate healing can keep him alive throughout the laning phase, while the extra DPS added by Tidecaller’s Blessing (E) provides a much-needed damage boost. Since Ezreal doesn’t have a lot of damage or sustainability in the early-game, Nami can give him a safety blanket and bring the champion up to speed faster.

One of my favorite things about the Nami and Ezreal bot lane duo is their ultimates, as Nami’s can help slow the enemies enough for Ezreal to line up his and fire away. Even if they flash out of the way, it’s still a win because they’ve had to burn a summoner spell, which means you can call for a gank from your jungler and make another play.

Braum

Braum is strongest when paired with AD carries who can help proc his passive, Concussive Blows, and that’s why he’s one of the best supports for Ezreal. Ezreal works nicely with Braum because his Mystic Shot (Q) is coded as an auto-attack, and for that reason, it helps Braum’s passive stack even faster. If you can weave your Q’s and auto’s together quickly, you can stun your enemies in no time once Braum hits them with an auto-attack or Winter’s Bite (Q).

Braum, in general, is one of my favorite support champions because he’s fun to play, his kit is easy to learn, and, let’s face it, his voice lines are epic. But he also has one of the most unbreakable shields in League, which means you have a way to protect your ADC, especially ones like Ezreal that need a second or two to line up their ultimates or as a way to disengage.

Maokai

Maokai is a perfect pick alongside Ezreal if you’re up against a squishy duo in the bottom lane, or your overall team composition is going in an aggressive direction. When it comes to pure engage and crowd control, there are hardly any better supports in the game than Maokai.

The Twisted Treant possesses an all-in kit, where he can close the distance with his Twisted Advance (W) then lock down enemies with his Bramble Smash (Q) and Nature’s Grasp (R). Ezreal, when paired with Maokai, can easily follow up the engage with his E, or even barrage them with his other abilities. This lets you either go all-in or stay in the back line, while targeting opponents struck down with CC.

During the laning phase itself, this strategy might be tricky. In teamfights, both champions should work exceptionally well together and provide you with solid CC and damage.

Taric

Taric may not be your first support choice, but he’s an excellent support for Ezreal. Not only is Taric durable, but his Dazzle (E) can help stun enemies, meaning Ezreal can safely damage his opponents for a few moments before using Arcane Shift (E) to get away safely.

Taric can also provide heals with his Starlight’s Touch (Q), passively increase an allied champion’s armor with Bastion (W), and increase your team’s survivability by making them invulnerable for a limited time with his ultimate, Cosmic Radiance (R). Taric is great for laning and team fights and has a kit that synergizes well with Ezreal.

As a Taric enthusiast, I enjoy playing with an Ezreal ADC because it means scaling and a slow-and-steady lane. You do have to be more mindful that you’re not going to be doing a lot of damage or pulling off solo kills, but what you will be doing is tanking damage for your team, stunning enemies so your teammates can pull off their skill shots, and making them invulnerable with your ultimate during critical team fighting moments.

Nothing is more annoying for the enemy team than having their combos and abilities wasted if you’ve pressed “R.” So, make sure you read the fights and use it when necessary.

Amumu

Amumu is an off-meta support that has been frequently seen in both professional and amateur games. He provides excellent defense and engagement opportunities and is the perfect support for Ezreal, especially if you’re looking to surprise your enemies.

He can stun his enemies with his Bandage Toss (Q) and Curse of the Sad Mummy (R), meaning Ezreal can take advantage of these moments to damage his enemies. It also makes it easier for Ezreal to hit his enemies with his ultimate, Trueshot Barrage (R). And if things go south, Amumu can help tank a lot of damage and help Ezreal escape.

Amumu is my cheese support pick. He is one of the champions I like to take in the bot lane when I know I need the element of surprise, and because not too many people in low-elo know how to face an Amumu support. It’s terrible, I know, but it can sometimes mean the difference between gaining LP and losing it if you know his kit and how to utilize it as a support and in teamfights.

Bard

Bard is an excellent support for Ezreal and the team. With Cosmic Binding (Q), he can slow and stun his enemies, and Caretaker’s Shrine (W) provides healing for the first ally who walks over the shrine. With Magical Journey (E), he can offer both engage and disengage opportunities for Ezreal.

It also allows Bard to roam more freely and efficiently across the map. This is not only great for his team but also for Ezreal, as he can farm the lane, get solo experience and gold, and take advantage of the healing shrines left behind by Bard.

Once both Ezreal and Bard have their core items, they can stun and do more damage to their enemies and hopefully snowball the game.

Soraka

Soraka is generally a great support, as she can help her ADC and her entire team with her healing, and she’s a strong support for Ezreal. In the early game, Ezreal has to play it safe and slow until he unlocks his Arcane Shift (E) and purchases a few items. As Soraka is more of a sustain-support, this lane is about scaling, farming, and poking where you can.

And as soon as Soraka and Ezreal get their core items, Ezreal can play more aggressively. Soraka can heal him with Astral Infusion (W) or stun enemies with Equinox (E), all of which can help keep Ezreal alive, much to the enemy’s dismay.

With Soraka and her healing, Ezreal has more opportunities to deal damage while enjoying a safer laning experience, which is why she is one of my go-to enchanter supports. I also find that some people don’t know that Soraka’s E can root enemies. So, if you can land it just in front of your enemy and in the direction they’re headed, you’ll find you have a better chance of rooting them, and your Ezreal has more opportunities to land his combos.

Leona

Last but not least, we have one of the most versatile supports in the game who is a great partner for almost any AD carry—Leona. The Radiant Dawn is a pure definition of an aggressive pick with plenty of CC tools to lock down any enemy. But everything comes at a price. When you pick Leona alongside Ezreal, you need to adjust and prepare for multiple skirmishes, especially in the early game.

Leona has a perfect gap closer in the form of Zenith Blade (E). Once used, she can follow up with an immediate stun from Shield of Daybreak (Q), and if she’s already on level six, use Solar Flare (R) afterward. However, her ultimate is phenomenal when used as an engaging tool as well, especially in late-game fights.

When paired with Ezreal, the duo should look to poke down the enemy ADC or support in the laning phase. Once they’re hit with a few Mystic Shots, it’s safe to go in as Leona and try to get a kill. You need to be certain of your damage, though. Once she engages, she won’t have any tools to escape the potential retaliation, which could lead to pointless deaths if you’re not careful enough.

All in all, however, Leona provides Ezreal with a much-needed frontline. Even if you can’t outmatch the enemies’ duo in the bottom lane, you should be just fine once the mid-game comes around.
