Dark Star Cho’Gath will be League’s first charity skin since Championship Ashe

Riot is donating 100 percent of the skin's proceeds from June 21 to July 20 to charity.

Cho’Gath’s first skin in three years was just announced today by Riot, but it’s more significant than that. Not only is this his only other relatively modern-looking skin alongside the Prehistoric skin from 2015, it’s also going to be a charity event—League of Legends’ first since Championship Ashe’s event last year.

Championship Ashe promised 25 percent of all proceeds would go to charity of the community’s choosing, something Riot decided with a player vote. Unlike that skin, 100 percent of the proceeds from the Cho’Gath skin will be dished out to charities by Riot. This skin won’t be a legacy skin, so there’s a limit on the charity proceeds.

As long as you buy the skin between June 21 and July 20, your sale will be given to a regional charity.

Apart from being packed with the most features a Cho’Gath skin has had since Battlecast Prime, this skin is awesome. As the name implies, it belongs to the Dark Star skin family. In the past, multiple champions were usually added to this set at the same time, like Dark Star Thresh and Varus followed by Dark Star Kha’Zix and Orianna.

Cho’Gath is alone, however, but perhaps his skin was meant to accompany the Dark Star Jarvan skin that was released earlier this year, which was also released by itself.

Judging by the preview, the Cho’Gath skin will probably hit the PBE within the next couple of days, placing it in the Patch 8.12 PBE cycle. Patch 8.12 should arrive on live servers in about two weeks, which is when this skin should also make its official debut.
