Today marked Day 2, Week 8 of the European League Championship Series (EU LCS) and Day 1, Week 8 of the North American League Championship Series (NA LCS).
From Giants Gaming destroying Team Vitality, to Apex edging out a 2-1 series against Echo Fox, here’s how Week 8 went down:
Europe
(8-6-2) Splyce 2-0 H2K (5-6-5)
Game 1: The first match was a quick 24 minute win for SPY. H2K started off in the lead, but a bad teamfight sent the game SPY’s way. The best performance of the match came from SPY mid laner Chres “Sencux” Laursen, who went 4/0/3 as Cassiopeia.
Game 2: The second game was a tougher matchup for SPY, as H2K didn’t throw a huge lead here. However, SPY was able to take this game and series victory thanks to superior skirmishing and objective control – SPY had taken 10 towers, 3 Dragons and a Baron, compared to H2K’s three towers. The best performance of the match came from SPY jungler Jonas “Trashy” Andersen, who went 3/0/11 as Rek’Sai.
(7-2-7) Giants Gaming 2-0 Team Vitality (3-7-6)
Game 1: The first match was no contest for GIA. VIT only one kill, compared to GIA’s 10. VIT was also unable to claim just about any objectives – only two towers to GIA’s seven towers, three Dragons and Baron. The best performance of the game came from GIA jungler Nubar “Maxlore” Sarafian, who went 1/0/8 and had an impressive 90% kill participation as Gragas.
Game 2: The second match pretty much followed the same pattern as the first, except VIT got two more kills and (12-3 in favor of GIA) and a Dragon (1-4 in favor of GIA). Again, VIT simply looked outclassed by GIA, who spent last split avoiding relegation. The best performance of the match came from GIA mid laner Na “NighT” Gun-woo, who went 6/0/4 as Viktor.
(9-7-0) G2 Esports 2-0 FC Schalke 04 (3-7-6)
Game 1: The first match was G2’s from the outset. Despite the game being close gold-wise until 18 minutes, it was obvious that G2 was confident and prepared to win, whereas S04 looked overly-cautious yet bound to make a mistake. G2 did eventually come out on top after winning three straight teamfights. The best performance of the match came from G2 jungler Kim “Trick” Gang-yun, who went 5/1/5 and had a game-high 91% kill participation as Gragas.
Game 2: S04 put up a stronger fight in the second match, dragging it out to 40 minutes. S04 was also able to take down G2 in a Dragon teamfight, however G2 answered back by sneaking a Baron and then running away with the game after that. The best performance of the match came from G2 mid laner Luka Perković, who went 8/1/5 as LeBlanc.
(5-5-6) Unicorns of Love 2-0 ROCCAT (2-5-9)
Game 1: The first game was back-and-forth until 22 minutes, when UOL took a Dragon then won a Baron teamfight. UOL then pushed into ROC’s base and fought one more time and won the game. The best performance of the match came from UOL ADC Kim “Veritas” Kyoung-min, who went 5/0/2 as Ashe and got a quadra kill in the final teamfight.
Game 2: The second game was more about Veritas (9/0/7 as Ezreal) and UOL top laner Tamás “Vizicsacsi” Kiss (9/1/6 as Trundle) going off and destroying ROC in every teamfight. Veritas and Vizicsacsi combined for 72% of UOL’s kills this game.
(7-5-4) Fnatic TIE Origen (2-8-6)
Game 1: The first game was a 32 minute slugfest between the two teams. OG was able to run away with the win because they went strong throughout the match, whereas FNC sputtered after losing a teamfight 17 minutes in. The best performance of the match came from OG mid laner Tristan “PowerOfEvil” Schrage, who went 10/1/4 as Cassiopeia.
Game 2: The second game was all FNC initially. They looked prepared to take an easy 30 minute win. However, OG brought it back and complicated things after taking down Baron 23 minutes in and almost took the lead from FNC. FNC answered back with a Baron of their own 29 minutes in, pushed and aced OG to win the game. The best performance of the game came from FNC jungler Lee “Spirit” Da-yoon, who went 5/2/8 as Rumble.
North America
(14-1) Immortals 2-0 NRG Esports (4-11)
Game 1: The first match was as everyone predicted. IMT won relatively easily, even acing NRG after NRG took down Baron 29 minutes in. The best performance of the match came from IMT jungler Kim “Reignover” Yeu-jin, who went 6/1/8 as Nidalee.
Game 2: The second match was tighter for NRG. They gave IMT a small challenge, however they were unable to take IMT down towards the late-game. After IMT had a clear-cut chance to win the game, IMT claimed it by taking down Baron, six towers, three inhibitors and a nexus within three minutes. The best performance of the match came from IMT ADC Jason “Wildturtle” Tran, who went 8/4/6 as Ashe.
(6-9) Apex 2-1 Echo Fox (1-14)
Game 1: The first match went on for 56 minutes and saw a combined 19 towers, seven dragons and three Barons fall. EF was able to come out on top thanks to a better late-game team composition with Viktor and Sivir. The best performance of the match came from EF support Terry “BIG” Chuong, who went 0/1/15 as Karma.
Game 2: APX came out strong and was almost able to win the game at 22 minutes, until APX sw their members slowly get picked off after taking down two inhibitors. EF then took down Baron and prolonged the game. However, APX played smart to keep EF from coming back. The best performance of the match came from APX jungler Lee “ShrimP” Byeong-hoon, who went 3/0/12 and had an insane 94% kill participation as Nidalee.
Game 3: The decider match followed the same pattern as the second. APX took an extended win after EF took down Baron. The best performance of the match came from APX top laner Jeon “Ray” Ji-won, who went 10/4/3 as Irelia.
