If you don’t follow the LCK, there’s a chance you still heard about Griffin’s jungler in 2018. After last year, Lee “Tarzan” Seung-yong is regarded by many to be the best jungler in the world, even if he didn’t get to compete at the League of Legends World Championship.
Well, the 2019 LCK season kicked off today, and it doesn’t appear that Tarzan skipped a beat during the offseason at all. During Griffin’s season opener against Kingzone DragonX, he racked up a total of 13 kills and not a single death over the course of the series. If this keeps up, it’s going to be hard for anyone to debate that Tarzan is the best jungler in the world.
Tarzan locked in Xin Zhao for both games of the best-of-three series, and led his team to a quick two-game sweep over the former LCK favorites on Kingzone. His jungle pathing put him in the right place at the right time in nearly every encounter, and on top of helping him to reach an impressive amount of kills, it also set Griffin up to have an advantage for every single objective on the map. Over the course of both games, Tarzan’s team amassed five dragons, two Rift Heralds, and a Baron. Thanks to him, they had total control of the map.
The gold lead in both games was eye-popping too. Despite both games being relatively short at 25 and 31 minutes respectively, the gold gap reached nearly 20,000 gold by each game’s end. Not only that, but they also racked up a total of 17 towers over the series, while Kingzone didn’t get a single one. It was a depressing showing if you’re a Kingzone fan, but if you’re a Griffin or Tarzan fan, you probably liked what you saw. You’d be crazy not to, at that.
With that, the first day of the LCK has wrapped up, but it continues tomorrow with games featuring Gen.G as well as SK Telecom T1.
